Wilmington/Newark, Delaware

Mickey's Mile Marker - Your road trip guide to WDW!

Name of town:  Wilmington/Newark

Location:  Delaware

Exit number(s):  1-11, Interstate 95

Hours from WDW: 17 - 20

Good Restaurants: Harry's Savoy Grill, 2.5 miles west of exit 11 (Naaman's Road), first/last exit in DE at PA border. Chain restaurants abound throughout the state.

Locations of 24 hour restaurants: Denny's, 1 mile west of I-95 exit 3 (southbound), 3A (northbound). Newark

Locations of good, clean hotels/motels:  Downtown Wilmington has several business-oriented hotels, all exits in DE have plenty of chain motels nearby. Stay clear of Claymont, near exit 11.

Recreation/attractions:  Christiana Mall, off of Exit 4, has plenty of tax-free shopping (Delaware has no state sales tax!)Look for plenty of out-of-state plates in the parking lot.

Nearest Disney store/outlet...and type ie... Castle Store:  Christiana Mall, Exit 4

Welcome Center: Unofficially exit 2, there is a large welcome center/service plaza accessible to both sides of I-95. Look for the big blue SERVICE AREA signs, it will be a left exit. Note: The area is currently closed and is being rebuilt, with no timetable on re-opening date. Thank you Mike for the update.

Any additional info:  I-95 through Delaware only runs 25 miles, and many travelers from points north exit or enter the state at the halfway point, the Delaware Memorial Bridge to the NJ Turnpike (Exit 5 C).
