Port Orleans Resort Riverside

Submitted By: Laura

Name Of Resort: Port Orleans Resort Riverside

Date Of Stay: September 20-27, 2008

Type Of Resort: Disney Moderate

Rate Paid During Your Stay: To be honest I didn't break it down - got package thru Laura at TMFL travel.

Room Sleeps: 5 - was in Alligator Bayou and there as trundle bed under one bed.

Over all rating: 8.5

Don't Miss: I would say the atmosphere although it can be a negative as well - in Alligator Bayou section there were many quiet places where you could relax and forget about the noise and bustle of the park - great to recharge the batteries.

Room Location Suggestion: 2529 -not a bad walk to the west depot bus stop but a bit long of a hike to the food court/lobby. first floor and away from pool so nice and quiet. my only complaint was trying to find it first day was bit of a challenge. several places where i had to "guess" at which way to turn as there wasn't a signpost. second day i learned which door of food court to exit from and trip was shorter and better marked. Personally would prefer to use POFQ next time but to get free dining i needed to use POR.

The Mouse For Less Tip:

Comments: Room was clean - a little wear at one edge of carpet. Maid service was very good - didn't get towel animals per se but each day the bathmat and a washcloth was folded into something - a flower, a butterfly, bird face, a shirt and tie (long one). Couldn't help but wonder if they were going this route because it wasn't something you could take home - think of the cost of towels if only a small percentage of those towel animals left :-) Did come home one day to find my sorcerer mickey watching tv with remote in his hand :-)

Bus service was good for the most part -but did have 2 longer than should have been waits - once around 5 p.m. When I waited over 30 minutes for a GHS bus to go to dinner - and 2-3 buses for every other park came and went; and on Friday when after an hour wait (from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm) waiting for a downtown Disney bus that never came. I gave up at that point - don't know if or when it did come.

Only other issue was kind of personal to me - mattress was not bad or anything but it was a pillow top type of style and i never do well with them so didn't sleep super well.

Something really different - on Sunday morning as i was heading to food court for breakfast I was about to go around a curve near the water and I heard this running sound - a lot of little feet. Turned the corner and coming toward me were 4-5 otters chasing hard after the ducks and other birds. Now otters may be playful looking in the water but out of the water they are pretty rodent like and the only rodent that does not bother me is one named Mickey. A part of me was fascinated to see the scene and a part of me was freaking that they might continue to where I was. Luckily they turned and headed into the water before getting to me.

Don't Miss: Pools and the boat to DTD.

Room Location Suggestion: We stayed in Alligator Bayou bldg 16 and it was nice, quiet, short walk to the food court, pool right in front, lots of shady areas, really pretty.

The Mouse For Less Tip: I thought the food court was a decent value (for Disney food).

Comments: Not our favorite resort, the best beds we've slept in by FAR. I kind of miss the overt Disney theme at the values, just that in your face "Disneyness". Its so opposite of what my daily life is like I guess its exciting every minute!! The moderates I have stayed at ,POR and Caribbean Beach, are much quieter and have much better landscaping, very subtle Disney touches. They are very relaxing. Its hard to compare them and say one is better than the other because they are just different things. I like them both, my favorites being POP and Caribbean, so far. That may change when we eventually bite the bullet and stay at the Poly, but I don't know.

Rate Paid During Your Stay: I'm not really sure. I know that Linda Norton from TMFL got us a great deal.

Room Sleeps: 4.

Don't Miss: The Lobby is just stunning!

Room Location Suggestion: We were in 8559 and it was a great location. Close to the pool and the bus stop.

The Mouse For Less Tip: Their breakfasts are huge. After the first morning, DH shared his breakfast with DS4 and I shared with DD7.

Comments: When we checked in there was no remote control and no ethernet cable. I called and was told that they were finding a lot of things missing since the Pop Warner kids had checked out that AM. They immediately brought down the remote, but the ethernet cable wasn't brought until the morning we were leaving. The room wasn't the cleanest, either. There was mold in the bathroom and a dirty baby spoon under the bed. The spoon was still there when we checked out. I did express this to the front desk when we were leaving and they said "Hmm". That was it. We never waited LESS than 20 minutes for a bus when we were leaving the park at night. I'm not sure we'd stay there again.
