Thurman Family
October 2002

Cast for this trip includes: me (39), DH (44), mom (62nd birthday), DD(18), twin DS (8), DD(4th bday), and DS (2).

Day One

Our 4yr old DD started her day with a wake up call from her pal, Mickey. We were heading to Epcot for the day. First stop was guest relations to pick up a birthday button, but they were all out. boo hoo. We caught the first character bus of the day and got pics and autographs with about 6 of our favorites. Checked out test track. No line! This was the favorite ride of the twins, so we rode 3 times. Checked out the dinosaurs, but no one was very impressed. Ice station cool was a big hit. My kids have all grown up in FL, so snow was great. They wanted to stay and have snowball fights. We tried all of the drinks. The boys liked the german the best ( CM said it has 2x the caffeine of coke). We even tried the beverly. Thanks so much to all who recommended it. Did Imagination Station. Again no great enthusiasm. Honey, I shrunk the audience was fun. Little DD spent the show with her feet up on the seat after the mice and laughed the whole time. Late lunch in Germany. Good food, good price, but we missed the show. One had just ended and the next one wasn't for over an hour. That didn't stop my kids from dancing though. We caught the drummers in Japan and the acrobats in China. The ride in Norway was closed. Headed back to the rooms at Port Orleans Riverside (bldg 14 - great location) for a swim and a snack before bed. Thursday will be a big day. It is DD's 4th birthday.

Day Two

Everyone woke to the Mickey wake up call today. (DH used the speaker phone). We had PS for CRT at 8:10. Opened the bday gifts ( a lot of Cinderella stuff) and made our way to the lobby to meet DSIL and her DGS. This was and early entry day for MK so we didn't get Main Street all to ourselves, but that was ok. Forgot to mention that DH and DD went to MK the night before to see if there were any bday buttons. They got 2 of the last 5. I was so happy. DD loved that everyone told her happy birthday. As we sat down at our table, Mary Poppins walked in. We all said hi and she came over and visited for a bit before beginning her rounds. She was great with the kids. When Cinderella and Prince Charming walked in our DD's eyes almost popped out of her head. She had been waiting for months for this day. He was so great with her. He talked with her for quite a while and asked about her birthday. We got pictures and autographs with everyone. 2yr old DS LOVED Snow White. He jumped right in her arms and didn't want to let go. He didn't care for anyone else. After breakfast we hit all of the rides in Fantasyland with no wait. It was great to just be able to walk on. We worked our way over to the haunted mansion. DD wasn't worried because the ghosts were all just pretend and DS just hid in DH shoulder when he was scared. Walking out we ran into Wendell, Liver Lips, and another bear so we got more pics. DS just kept saying "more bear". DH took the big kids on SM and BTM while mom and I let the little ones nap in their strollers. Jungle Cruise, Pirates, and Tiki Room came next. Then we walked over to Cosmic Ray's for lunch. Afterward we walked across the street to the Indy cars and waited all of 12 minutes for our turn. I got to ride with the 2yr old and he had a blast steering the car. While DH took the big ones on SM (2x no wait), I went with mom and the little guys on the TTA and Buzz Lightyear. DD loved it so much, she couldn't wait for her brothers to go. We met them at the exit of SM and lo and behold the talking trash can was there. I had forgotten about it. DD was absolutely amazed that the trashcan knew it was her birthday and even sang to her. Her brothers kept checking inside and saying "no one is in there!" What a magical moment. The boys loved Buzz as much as their little sister and brother, then insisted on taking me to SM. They thought I would be scared and kept reassuring me that I would be fine. After that we made our way over to the teacups for a repeat before hitting toontown. It was great to be able to get pics over there. The boys all wanted to see Pooh, but DD opted for Minnie. DH took the camera since they went first, but right after the CM came and got us. I figured we would just get autographs, but they let DH and the boys come in with us when they finished with Pooh. The big guys were dying to try out the rollercoaster, so while they went (about 4 times), we caught Max and Goofy and then hit the playground. By now all were exhausted, so we caught the train to Main Street so DD (18) could shop. The show at the castle was just beginning, so the rest of us caught it. DD was incensed that the evil queen wanted to take over the castle. She kept telling me " that is Cinderella's Castle, not hers" We made our way back to the hotel for a swim and pizza before hitting the sheets. What a great birthday it was.

Day Three

Last day. We opted to not get a wake up call this am. The boys had us all up by 7:30 anyway. After packing up the car and eating doughnuts, cereal, coffee, and juice in our room, we were off for our last day at Animal Kingdom. The safari was our first stop (after checking out all the cool bugs the CMs had at the entrance). Today was mom's birthday celebration and she got a "Happy Birthday" every time she turned around. The safari was great, but one of the twins was worried that someone had really shot Big Red. "It's tough to be a bug" was ok. DD didn't like the spider, said he was a "bad guy". Camp Minnie Mickey was a big hit. 2yr old didn't like Pocohantas so DH took him out to walk around. He spent a lot of time exploring the area with Wendell. DH said there were no other people around and DS just took his hand and went with him. DH, and 2 DS went to Lion King while mom, DDs, one DS and I hit the restroom. DS decided he wanted to see the show so I reluctantly took him while the others went to meet characters. Boy am I glad I saw the show. Because we were late, we got to sit in the second row. DS couldn't stop clapping and laughing. It was just awesome. Dino land was next. Primeval Whirl was a bust with the boys. They liked SM and BTM so much better. The playground was a big hit though. We stayed there while DH took the older boys and both DDs to Kali. The youngest DD was thrilled to be made captain of the boat and get a special seat. We all met up at Tarzan Rocks. Even though it is unbelievably loud, 2yr old fell asleep. Mom didn't like this show at all. She thought it was way too loud. After, the kids insisted that I do Kali with them. Of course I managed to get soaked. We hunted down the tigers and made our way out of the park to head home. Yeah a 90 minute drive soaked to the bone. All in all a wonderful trip thanks to all of the tips you guys gave and I can't wait to go to MGM in 2 weeks for my bday (just for the day).
