Chris Frederick WDW Trip - January 2003

Trip Report - Day Seven
January 17, 2003
Chris-38, Todd-35, Sydney-5, Melanie-2.5

We went to Golden Corral this morning and filled up on their buffet. We were going to Sea World today to take advantage of our second day passes. On the way to Sea World, I joked to Todd that he could drop me off at the Magic Kingdom for the day. He said, "you can go by yourself this afternoon, if you want to!". That was music to my ears!! I think he wanted me to get the most use out of my Annual Pass.

I knew we could finish up at Sea World and be out of there by noon. I was itching to go! Todd wanted to ride Kraken so I took the kids to see Pets Ahoy again. We met up afterward and he tried to convince me to ride it as well. He said it was one of the best coasters he’d ever been on.

We all went to watch the Shamu show and it was very, very chilly. There were a lot of people sitting in the splash zone and I thought they were crazy! They ended up getting completely soaked.

One more run through the penguin exhibit and we were out of there! I was already planning what I was going to do when I got to the Magic Kingdom!

I dropped them off at the condo and Todd gave me his fleece to wear. What a guy! I wore it over my hooded sweatshirt and made sure I had my gloves. It was not going to warm up at all today!

I got an excellent spot in the parking lot and merrily headed toward the entrance. No stroller! Yippee!! I was on my own, baby!

It was around 2 pm and I was hungry so I stopped at Casey’s for a hot dog. I never eat hot dogs but it seemed like the right thing to do. As I ate outside, the piano player started playing. This all seemed like a wonderful dream to me.

The crowds were much heavier today as it was the beginning of MLK weekend but I was still able to ride Splash Mountain (no front seat for me today, thanks!) with no wait.

All by myself, I watched the Country Bears. I’d never seen it before and it was very cute. I was going to do the Haunted Mansion but there was a line. I’d been very spoiled this trip and didn’t want to stand in a line.

Space Mountain was next and I sat in the front seat with a group of overly friendly high school students from Massachusetts. They would sing Zippity Doo Da during the really scary parts.

I watched part of the parade and wished the girls had been able to see it. It was cuter than I thought it would be. I worked my way around the parade route to Main Street. I’d never had a Tollhouse Cookie from the Bakery before and today was my day!

I waited in line, ordered my one cookie and when I was paying for it noticed a beautiful Main Street Bakery mug at the cash register. I have regretted not buying it many times since that day! It would have made an awesome souvenir. I’ve considered calling WDW Merchandising a few times and may just ask for it for my birthday in April.

I stood on Main Street for a long time and the marching band arrived. I lingered in all the shops, I soaked in all the atmosphere. I knew it would be a very long time before I was here again, especially alone!

I boarded the monorail for Epcot and headed right for Spaceship Earth. This ride personifies Epcot for me and I ride it whenever I can. When I got to World Showcase, I got a Beck’s Octoberfest beer in Germany and slowly made my way around the world. It was so nice being able to spend all the time I wanted in the shops.

I was getting a little hungry so I went to the Land for something to eat. By this time, I was starting to feel the effects of all the naughty things I’d eaten that week so I was looking for something healthy. I settled for a veggie wrap and a bottled water. I looked up at the windows where the Passholder lounge used to be and thought about the trip I’d taken with my 17 year old daughter in August. We sat up there and looked down on the plaza where I was right then. It was such a special trip for just the two of us since she’ll be going away to college in the fall. As if on cue, they started playing "Sunrise, Sunset" and that was about all I could take. I needed to get out of there before I burst into tears! LOL

I wandered around and considered staying for Illuminations but didn’t want to fight the crowds. It was also getting very cold as the temps had dropped to the lower 40’s. I made my way to the exit feeling like I’d finally gotten my Disney fix and could go back to New York a happy woman.

I got back to the condo around 8:15 and the girls were in bed. I did a quick load of wash and packed our suitcases. I crawled into bed with Todd and we had a couple of Bass Ales and watched TV. It had been an excellent week and we were not looking forward to going home. I fell asleep with a big smile on my face dreaming of my magical day.

Day: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
