Kaycee - January 2003

Day 3 - 1/27/2003 (Monday)

We woke up a little later than planned today, but it's okay since we don't have any PS this morning. After eating a quick breakfast in the room, we head out to Animal Kingdom as this is the park that the girls chose for today.

(This whole trip was *mostly* for the girls so we let them make a lot of the decisions and oddly enough things ran a LOT smoother and were a LOT more relaxed on this trip than ever before!)

LOL, maybe they should plan all of our trips.

Now, I do not want to start any debate over the moral or ethical rights or wrongs of this - but we allowed our daughter to wear her Epcot birthday button all week. (It doesn't state "Today is my birthday" like the MK one - it just says "Happy Birthday") and we instructed her that if anyone asked her if today was her birthday she was to tell them, "No, but this is my birthday trip - my actual birthday was yesterday"....or "day before yesterday", etc. You get the idea.

So we get to AK and my daughter goes crazy with her disposeable camera. She had taken a few pictures the day before...but she really loves animals, so she was just snapping left and right like a member of the paparazzi.

She was very anxious to do the safari, so we headed on to Africa. I was so afraid she was going to drop her camera over the side of the ride vehicle but she had a death grip on it and continued to snap and wind, snap and wind, oooh and aaaah. It was a great safari and we had many close encounters, but the coolest were the white rhinos that we could've reached out and touched. (Not that I'm *that* much of an idiot) Several times I thought Maya might climb right over me to see on my side. It's a lot of fun to watch her enjoying this ride.

After the safari we walked the trail, saw some more sights and eventually made our way over to the Pocahontas show. I'm not sure what was with our Pocahontas, (we've seen this show before and enjoyed it) but her voice just REALLY got on my nerves. She was a mediocre singer at best and she was singing very loud. Super loud borderline mediocrity does not make for a fun experience. Even my little one held her ears after about 20 seconds of "Colors of the Wind". The highlight of this was when they asked Maya where she was from (before the show) and she said "the United States of America" and everyone laughed.

After escaping from Pocahontas we went to DinoLand and Maya started in again about wanting to ride Primeval Whirl. I tried to explain to her that she was too short, but she just wouldn't accept that. (Stupid me, I just don't know anything) So she insisted on walking up to the line with me. Well, of course she was waaay too short...the guy was able to put his fist over her head and still not touch the stick. He told her "sorry, hon...not even close". She said "Oh man!" and stomped her foot and then started walking towards her daddy...then she called back over her shoulder to me "have fun for me, mom". Okay...did she turn 5 or 15 this trip???? (Oh...and I did have fun)

We did many other things while at AK, and they were super fun...but I am not going to go through every ride and show, snack or meal. Maya got lots of Happy Birthday wishes and extra hugs from the characters after they'd point to her button. We did get to meet many, many characters - and Kyra even met Stitch and handed him the autograph book and everything. (I was shocked!) She wouldn't meet anyone else after that though. Later that night she confessed that he had hugged her tight and she didn't want anyone else to hug her tight. LOL. She wouldn't even hug Pooh, Piglet or Eeyore...who are some of her faves.

Once we'd done pretty much all we wanted to do at AK we hopped on the bus back to the ASMu with the plan of heading out to Belz outlet mall. Once we got back to the room however, everyone - including dh seemed to just pass out. I was all set and ready to go, but they were all laying all over the place mumbling "we'll be ready in just a minute". Now, I don't really understand this because I am in the worst shape of anyone in our family physically. If anyone should tire out easily...wouldn't it be me?? I felt great! And actually I had not mentioned it yet, but I was hoping to hop over to Epcot tonight for Illuminations. Hmmm...not sure if that is going to happen.

I finally got everyone out the door and we are off to the Disney outlets. Once we arrive, both of the girls are asleep and dh volunteers to stay in the van with them so they can rest and I can shop in peace. See? That's why I married him...he puts up with my Disney obsession, AND he knows the value of shopping without children in tow. And isn't that all that really matters?

I picked up a few things at the outlets such as a 2003 calendar, a new fanny pack, the 100 Years of Magic cd, some cute music boxes for my girls and my nieces, some tacky little necklaces for the girls and my nieces, some coloring books, t-shirts, a mug, and a couple of pins. And best of all...no one was pulling on my shirt or running off from me!!! Woo Hoo! I could've stayed in there all day.

As it was, by the time I got out to the van dh was almost asleep too. So I mentioned going to Epcot, but after the look I got from my hubby I immediately started laughing and said "I'm just kidding!!!" (What is *with* these folks tonight???) I thought about going by myself, but then decided they would all be very well rested tomorrow morning, and I might be the one tired and slowing them down if I don't rest too.

So we all went back to the food court and ate (I had the chicken quesadilla this time - that greasy cheesesteak was a lot greasier than I had remembered, so I decided I better not do that again!) and Hector had a meatball sub. The kids were not that hungry as they had snacked some earlier so I got two of those fruit and cheese things out of the fridge in the back (very dollarless!) and some Capri Suns out of our cooler and we had our super cheap meal then showers, then we hit the sack.

****Oh...I forgot to mention that yesterday when we got back to the room there was a card on our bed surrounded by Maya's and Kyra's stuffed animals. When she opened it up it was a picture of Mickey and Minnie and said "Happy 5th Birthday Maya! Love, Mickey and Minnie" Maya just lost her mind over this one. She was so proud of that card. Kyra asked me when her birthday was, and was it maybe tomorrow? I felt bad for her right then, but aside from that she got pretty equal attention. I also explained to her that it was Maya's birthday...but it was mine and her's and daddy's UNbirthday. She said "ooooh", nodding her head with this knowing look, like "poor Maya - it's not her UNbirthday" LOL. I swear sometimes at this age she reminds me of Joey on Friends. hahahaha.****

High points of today - watching Maya on the safari, seeing Kyra actually hug Stitch, shopping in peace, Working in such a cheap dinner!

Low points - Pocahontas screaming at us, everyone's lack of energy and general blah attitude, missing the Lion King show AGAIN.

Tomorrow - all day at the MK!!!!!!!!!! (We had so much fun this day)
