Ray Flores - October 2004

Day 6 Tuesday October 19, 2004

I woke up at 6:30 AM and got ready for a long day. I picked up a small snack at End Zone. MGM was opening early and I would eat inside of the park. I got there about 7:30 and got in line. I got in the park at 7:50 and just hung out at the sorcerer's hat until 8:00. We all got in line and followed the lead cast around the park, as he showed us the different rides. I decided I wanted to do the Great Movie Ride, but it did not start until 8:30Am. So I went to the ABC commissary and got some breakfast. I went back the Great Movie Ride and had a blast. The cast member drove us through some awesome movies. Half of them took place before I was born, like Casablanca.. I did like the Wizard of Oz exhibit as it was the last movie, and we sang, "Follow yellow brick road." I decided that I was ready to do something else. I traveled back to my resort. I went back to my resort and saw the Disney Vacation cubicle and decided to have a look I chatted with a nice Disney cast member and was convinced to head over to Saratoga Spring and investigate this opportunity.

The Disney Vacation club is a timeshare program that allows members to purchase a deed, and the benefit is that they gain a certain amount of points to come to the Vacation resorts, which are very nice. You redeem the points and it pays for your resort. Saratoga Springs is in phase two construction, but I got to see some awesome rooms. One thing that really struck me is that the balconies overlook Pleasure Island and they are extremely close to Epcot and to MGM. Well I soon snapped back into reality as the cost was explained to me. You put up about 10% of 14,000 and you pay off the rest over 10 years, but the vacation package is good for 10 years. I sat in an office trying to decide if I could come up with 2800.00 for the down payment. The monthly payments would be about 200.00. I played with the calculator for about 15 minutes, but in the end I could not commit to something, with out discussing it with my mom. I received a nice bag on information. I was also given a meal voucher for a free meal. They called transportation and I told them I wanted to go to Downtown Disney. I entered Downtown Disney and headed straight to Disney Quest. Pleasure Island was closed at the time, but I was not interested in clubbing. I arrived at Disney Quest and was ready to charge many games. I played this one interactive game where you get on a hockey puck and maneuver it past a goalie. It is a type of pinball where my movement will activate bumpers and utilize the puck. I got two goals. I played a fishing game, but I did not know what the heck I was doing. I went around the corner and played a airplane game. Basically, I am the pilot and I have to get the plane in the air, make time points, and then land it. Well, I did really well on the take off only. I only needed two chances. I flew around for a bit, taking the plane up and down to get through the time check points. I started the landing and I did not see that I was coming in low. Well I was so close, but obviously I am no pilot, because the plane came down right at the start of the runway. I went to the next chair and started playing fighter pilot game, but that was not happening. I could not fly with the stick or hit any targets. I went upstairs to the cheesecake factory, and I was in love. I ordered a piece of cheesecake and milk. They had Internet computers, so I waited my turn for one. I checked my email and sent a couple of things out. I decided to leave Disney Quest and go shopping at the marketplace. I had a 10 rebate if I spent 50 dollars. I walked quite a way, but found the marketplace. I found my store very easily, "The World of Disney." This store was basically a combination of a lot of other stores. I bought about 63.00 worth of stuff, so my rebate came in handy. I called Jeffy and told him that I wanted to go to Wishes. I headed back to my hotel and dropped off my packages. The arcade, was calling me so I went and spent some time and money in there. I got some neat stuff, when I cashed in my tickets, a few pieces of candy. I got to the Magic Kingdom and the sky was getting really dark. Well, as I tried to use my cell phone to call Jeff, it became clear that the lightning was knocking out my service. I did get a call from Jeff saying that he was having major problems and he was still at work. I went back to the Magic Kingdom, thinking it would be a good way to end my trip to see the castle. I decided I wanted to have another set of pictures done, so I went to Exposition. Well, I was informed that both of the Kodak machines were down and they were being upgraded at some point and time. I went over to the picture area, and was greeted by a fabulous cast member. I selected a background and took a picture on a green screen, and he began to edit the picture. It was so neat to see me going into the picture. I paid for the pictures, went to the castle, got a bucket of popcorn, and me a place to sit down for a while. I went in and purchased a phone card, so that I could call a few people tonight because my cell phone was beyond dead. The fireworks tonight were at 8:00 pm. It began to rain during Wishes so I creped back toward the front of the park. Jiminy Cricket narrated the show. I went back to the hotel and had an extremely late supper. I left Jeff a message, but I figured he got tied up with computer issues where he works. I did a final check of the room and set a wake up call for 6:15 AM. Mears would be there to pick me up at 8:45AM.
