M-Y Family trip report - day 9 - "I could do this all day"
We wake to the warmest day we've had so far. It is in the low 80s, perfect for the place DD would like to go today - Typhoon Lagoon. We have 3 complimentary tickets from our last visit 3 years ago. On that occasion we had only been there a short while when it opened up and poured, so they gave us tickets to come back another day. DS is old enough to need a ticket now, so we buy a fourth, get some life vests and head for Castaway Creek.
I spend the next two hours floating. I LOVE this. We wave at some of the lifeguards as we go buy, at one point near the end of the 2 hrs one of them even asks "How long are you going to stay in???" Forever, if I could. For all of this time DS has been right by my side, floating away on one of the yellow tubes. All I have to do is hold onto one of his handles. He enjoys the different points where you can have water dumped on you. He especially likes being a target for the folks manning the water canons. I can not say the same.
For most of this time Dad and DD were with us. They got out twice. Once to get DD a new vest because the one she had on was too big. The second time because DD had a meltdown and needed some potable water. The first time they catch up with us. The second time they just wait for us to come around again.
We eventually get out and decide to try the wave pool. We stay in shallow water at first and it is my job to keep DS's head above water. In the shallow area, this is not a problem. After awhile I ask Dad to take over supervising DS so I can go out deeper and enjoy a couple of waves with DD.
I go out to waist deep and really like being lifted up with each wave. DD likes it, too, and isn't even holding on to me anymore. After a few waves, DS wants to come out to me. This turns out to not be such a good idea. The next wave knocks me off my feet. I am trying to keep my son above water and am unable to get back on my feet for what seems like a loooong time but which in reality was probably only several seconds. I get a nose full of water and a scraped knee and I'm done for the day. Call me a wimp, but that was just a little too scary. It's closing time, anyway.
Back at the cabin and all dried off, we decide tonight is "Girl's Night Out" DD and I take the bus to Downtown Disney and Dad and DS just hang out at the cabin. Our first stop is the Home store where I get a lamp shade for my collection of Yankee Candles and another Disney cookbook. I have these sent to the resort so I don't have to drag them around with me all night. Next it's on to Ghiradelli's for warm brownie sundaes. That is the best brownie I've had in a long time and DD agrees. From there we go to the Lego store and see how much we can cram into a big plastic cup. This is such a neat concept and we fill up on parts like wheels and windshields and bricks in colors we don't have. After this we spend a lot of time wandering aimlessly through World of Disney. It seems like we go through the same rooms over and over. Eventually we give up looking for gifts and go outside for a breath of fresh air.
We head for Once Upon a Toy to do the same thing with Potato Head parts that we did with Legos. DS has a Mister Potato Head at home, so we cram a box full of Disney accessories.
Our final quest is to try to replace DS's "Guest of Honor" nametag only to discover that they are all out, have been all out for about a month, and the woman behind the counter doesn't know if they will continue to carry them.
One bus, two buses and we stagger back to the cabin ready for bed.
M-Y Family trip report, day 10 "Memories, of the Way We Were"
I slept on the Murphy bed last night so I could be next to the phone for my wake up call. My friend Linda, former college roommate, once upon a time bridesmaid, is coming to visit. She lives about two hours from here. I am up, dressed and ready to meet her at the bus stop. And after that initial moment when we both looked at each other and wondered how the heck we got to be so OLD, it was like old times again. We spent a couple of hours talking and laughing. We fired up the grill and had lunch on the deck.
It was wonderful to see her again and I am a little sad when it's time for her to leave. We take the bus with her back to the parking lot and after our goodbyes, take a bus out to the Settlement.
It is only after I get there that I find out I need to be at the Meadow trading post to pick up the purchases I've had sent to the resort. Que Sera, we're here, we might as well go see the animals. The petting zoo is probably the least impressive thing I've seen at Disney thus far, but the kids like it. We get an orange bus to the Meadow, buy a few things that were not on our list, pick up my packages and then wait a very looooong time for an outpost bus. This was the first time using the internal bus system that we had to wait more than 5-10 minutes for the bus to arrive.
When we get back to the cabin, DS is condemned to spend a half hour on the bottom bunk, being quiet and not bothering anybody. He has been generally disobedient all day and *I* need a break. I think he needs a nap, but he has other ideas and spends his time doing his best to stay awake.
Around the time DS is released from bunk bed jail, Dad and DD take off to the grocery store. DD wants an ice cream cake for her birthday.
