M-Y family trip report, day 5 "Real tigers and a really good meal"

Animal Kingdom day. The only thing on DS's "must do" list is see the tigers, because he has recently become a Tiger Cub Scout himself. We do "It's Tough to be a Bug" first, then head for the Maharajah Jungle Trek. This is the very first time we have done this walking tour and it is nicer than I had imagined. And, yes, we did see real tigers. I even got a few good pictures.

This is also our first trip to AK since they opened the new section of Dinoland. We put the kids in line for the Triceratops Spin and go stand by the exit, only to see them come back out the entrance. DD is holding DS by the hand. She was told by a CM that DS needed a parent to ride with him. Now he doesn't want to go on it at all. Dad takes DD on Primeval Whirl and DS and I do a little shopping and people watching.

DD wants to ride TS even if her brother doesn't. DS and I head for the Boneyard and Dad stays with DD. We find out that children 6 and over can ride by themselves. The CM who wouldn't let DS ride thought he looked younger than 6. DD told the CM that DS was six but she apparently didn't believe her.

It doesn't matter. DS spends the next 45 minutes playing happily at the Boneyard.

We leave at closing, stopping to buy postcards and Mickey ears on the way out. We're on our way to Animal Kingdom lodge and our 6:30 PS at Boma.

Boma is another first for us. And after a wonderful meal I am ready to add it to our repeat list. The food was fantastic. Each of us found plenty of things that appealed to us. I especially liked the Durban spiced chicken, a mildly spicy lamb pot pie dish whose name escapes me, and the pineapple cheesecake.

Back to the cabin for an uneventful, relaxing evening.

M-Y family trip report, day 6 "Rain, rain, go away..."

We arise not especially early and ready ourselves for a day at MK. We are literally heading out the door when the rain begins. But a little rain isn't going to stop us.

First stop at MK is Tomorrow Land to get fast passes for SM and Buzz. The line for Buzz however is pretty short so we just ride instead of getting the FP. Then it's time for lunch and we go to Cosmic Rays.

The caesar salad with chicken here is the best I've ever had anywhere, so I must order it once again. DS, who has not been eating much all week, consumes most of a half of rotisserie chicken and most of his fries. DD has the chicken strips and fries and Dad just nibbles at the raw carrots that went with DS's meal.

After lunch it is time for them to use their fast passes. DS and I get FP for Pooh and then get in the very short line for the carousel, after which we wait 30 minutes for Snow White.

We don't actually get to ride Snow White. After calmly standing in line until we reach the front, DS asks "What ride is this?" When I tell him it's about Snow White, he bursts out crying "I HATE Snow White" I am not one of those parents to drag crying kids onto things they don't want to do, so I ask the CM to let us out.

Shortly after this little episode, Dad and DD arrive and we all go in to see Mickey's Philharmagic. It's very nice, but I have to admit that my favorite part is watching the little girl sitting next to us trying to grab things out of the air. She looked to be about 2 and was absolutely adorable.

From here we proceed to Tinker Belle's shop to get a present for one of DD's friends who has a thing for fairies. I wish that little girl could see this store.

On to Toontown to ride Barnstormer. DS does not want to go on. He has been in a funk all day. The first thing that perks him up is letting him run through the water at Donald's boat. I do not quite get why this is so appealing. It has been raining on and off all day, so he's already damp, but I'm in "whatever makes the kid happy" mode, so let him get even wetter.

This happy little scene is followed by the whole family hopping aboard the train for a trip to FrontierLand. Upon arrival we split up again, what a surprise, because Dad and DD are going on the Mountains and DS and I do not do the wilder rides. I ask DS if he would like to go see the Country Bear Jamboree. He asks if it is a ride or a show (it's been 3 yrs, half his lifetime, since our last trip and he doesn't remember anything) When I tell him it's a show of sorts, he says no. He wants to go on the Pirate ride again. Of course, Mommy loves the Pirate ride, too, so it's easy to be accommodating. He even convinces me to buy him some pirate gear after the ride. Mommy is becoming(?) a pushover.

We decide not to bother trekking back to use our FP for Pooh. Next up is the Jungle Cruise and a 40 minute wait. But the time passes quickly and we enjoy the "cruise"

Dad has been in radio contact, so we find a place to sit and wait for them to find us. It is now time for me to accomplish my second goal of the day: Pineapple Dole Whip. :) We all enjoy the yummy goodness and by then it's time to leave. We only see bits of the fireworks tonight, but promise DD that on Sunday, for her birthday, we will make sure to catch the whole show again.

Monorail, tram and back to the van. DS is asleep before we even make it out of the parking lot. Tonight we are dining, if you can call it that, at the Golden Corral, aka cheap buffet. On our way there we get a call on our cell phone from my MIL. My SIL is visiting from the other side of the world (with a little "w") and they want to chat. In the background SIL is yelling at MIL to have us call her back. Because of course we can afford a long distance phone call more than she can. This may be true when we are at home, but our cell phone plan has very limited weekday hours. Not that SIL would care.

OK, I can feel a huge rant about my inlaws coming on, so I will skip ahead to dinner.

DS sleeps in my lap for most of it. He is not really sleeping, because each time I get up to get food, he gets up and goes with me. But he doesn't eat anything until near the end and then all he wants is dessert. The food is mostly edible. Some of the dessert selections are even quite good.
