Flores - December 2005

Day 8 - Thursday - December 8, 2005

Bye Bye Mickey

Wake up call 5:30. I woke up to Stitch and I have come to hate him a bit. Well I don't get any breakfast so I am getting cranky. I walk down to the front side of the hotel and found the airport check in. A neat perk to staying at Disney is that we I can check into for my flight, get my boarding pass, and check my luggage. I handed my ID card to the nice gentlemen and he punched it in the computer. I gave him my luggage, and he found a problem. On my boarding pass the flight time was 9:15 but on the luggage tag that printed it said 10:15. It was really weird, but I knew a lot of traffic inbound to DFW was going to be delayed. The man had to call American Airline. I relaxed and just moved to the side so that other people could check in. He stayed on the phone for about 15 minutes trying to get someone. He finally told me that the flight was delayed until 10:30AM. I walked over to the Magical Express loading area and had a seat. My pickup time was 6:15 so I did not have any time to wander around or eat.

Our bus pulled up and I handed my Magical Express packet to the driver. Kronk's new groove was showing and I just decided to watch that. The bus went over to the Beach Resort and picked up some guest. I decided to try and get some sleep, but that did not work. I watched the movie and enjoyed it quite a bit. As we drove into the airport I was tolded I would be stop two. The bus stopped at the west side first and let off some passengers. We got to my stop and I disembarked the bus. The driver opened the bin and pulled out my carry on bag. I thanked him and gave him a tip for a great trip.

I walked into the airport and found American Airlines. I did not have to go to a kiosk as I already had my boarding pass, and my luggage was being handled for me. I walked into the security line. This one guy was trying to cut. I accidentally got into the employee line and I got into another line. The guy only had 15 minutes to get to his gate and I kind of figured he might miss his flight, since he still had to clear security and board the train, I got up to security, emptied my pockets and put my carry on bag on the belt. I walked through and had no problems. I was curious as to what my carry on bag would do. Apparently there was no problem as it went through perfectly. In DFW they rescanned it because they wanted another look at my breathing machine. My stomach was growling so loud I thought I was going to have to answer it.

I needed to be at Gate 16, so I boarded the West people mover train. I arrived and started walking toward the gate. I was so happy to see a Burger King. I grabbed some breakfast, but something caught my eye. There was a little store called Cinnabon, and I really wanted one. I walked over and ordered me a pecan cinnabon and my eyes got big as I saw this thing. Since I had a lot of time I decided to relax and enjoy my breakfast. I thought I could eat my cinnabon with my fingers, but it was so large I had to use a fork and knife. I finished and slowly started walking toward my gate. I saw the plane was at the gate, so I could not understand why the flight was delayed. I sat down and put on my CD Player. I heard some people talking and they said that the flight crew did not get in until late so they had to change the flight time to accommodate them. A lot of people going to DFW had transfers to other airports, and they were rebooking their flights and changing tickets. I was satisfied and went back to my music.

They started boarding at 10:00 and of course my zone was not near the top. I called my cousin Brent and left a message notifying him that my flight was an hour late.

I got on board and met a nice man who was going to Tucson. He went to sleep right away and I tried to. I did doze off for much of the flight. I felt the plane descend a little bit and I thought we were getting close to DFW, but the pilot told us we were getting batted around by turbulence. As we began our final, the guy who sat next to me started contemplating how he could make his flight. I heard the flight attendant say that the Tuscan would be departing Terminal A. We landed at DFW airport and taxied into terminal C. I called my cousin and told him that we were taxing to terminal C gate 21. The flight attendant asked us passengers who were not transferring to remain seated as some passengers had very tight transfers to make. The guy next to me said he had 10 minutes to make his flight and I told him that we were on central time now, and he breathed a little bit. I stayed seated as a lot of people took off running. I got up and I did not realize that everyone had not gotten off who needed to get off quickly.

I arrived inside the airport and followed the signs to the baggage pickup. I got down there and the cold slapped me in the face. It was about a 15 minute wait and I stayed as far away from the door as I could. I saw a couple of bags that looked like mine, but the bags did not have the Disney ID tag on.

I called my cousin and he tolded me he was on the train and would be at the airport in about 30 minutes. My cousin pulled up and I was in shock at how cold it was. I had a sweater on, but I should have layered up. It felt like my skin was being ripped off as I got inside the car. Well my vacation is over and I was sad, but I knew that it was time to get back to Temple.

Comments:

  • I was really happy to have friends at Disney who were very friendly to me even though I am a novice.
  • I really liked having a park hopper ticket as I really did jump from park to park.
  • I had not been on vacation this year and I really did get refreshed.
  • Even though I did get a little banged up, I still enjoyed my trip.
  • I felt like I had done quite a bit at Disney World and decided next year I did not want to go
  • Experiencing Disneyland's 50th birthday was really neat.
  • As always the employees as Disney were incredible and really did go out of their way to make sure every need I had was met.
