Colleen & Family - June 2006

Cast of Characters: Kurt -41 , Colleen (me) – 41, Sarah- 12, Kristen -6
Day 8 - June 16th, 2006 - Happy Birthday Dad

Even though last night was a late night, we were up early this morning. When we asked at the desk last night about transportation to the Polynesian for the Ohana character breakfast, was told that to be on the safe side we should call for a cab by 6:30 so that we could make it in time. This meant that we all had to be up and ready by then so the alarm was set for 5:00. When we called they sent a cab over almost right away and we were at the Polynesian at least 45 minutes before our ressies. That wouldn't have been so bad except the restaurant didn't open until 7:30 so had lots of time to try and entertain two girls. Kristen was getting very annoying by the time they finally seated us. We were able to check in around 7:00 for our meal and were handed a pager. A little later they set up for family pictures but we chose not to do those pictures. Right when the restaurant opened all of the staff came out and sang a nice little Hawaiian song for us. I don't remember what it was for sure but it was cute. One of the nice things about having one of the first ressies of the day is that there is no waiting. Right after the song our pager went off and we were one of the first to be seated. The food was served family style and was very good. We had Hua Paka (Scrambled Eggs), Uala Kahiki (Fried Potatoes), Pua'a (Pork),Pelena - hot home country buttermilk biscuits with sausage gravy available, and Seasonal Fruit Bowl for na Keiki (Kids). All very good. We were able to see Mickey, Pluto, and Stitch. Kurt asked Pluto if he was hungry and Pluto shook his head yes. Somehow he managed to convey that Mickey had forgotten to feed him this morning. Then when Mickey came around the girls told him what Pluto had said about not being fed. This made Mickey mad. The girls had a lot of fun with this. Kristen also loved the parade around the restaurant with Stitch.

After a nice breakfast we went back to the rooms to change and get our stuff for Blizzard Beach. We caught the bus over to BB for a few hours. We were surprised to see the mugs for sale but decided that it would be a good bargain to purchase one mug to share. It took us a little while to find a place to put our gear and after that we spent some time in the wave pool before venturing off to some other rides. We decided to ride Teamboat Springs and ended up missing the ski lift up to the rides area and had to climb all of the stairs up to the top. Not what I would call a fun time. We did all enjoy the ride down however and had our picture taken at the bottom. Kurt would want to get this picture. I wouldn't have minded except that I was in my swimming suit. If only I could lose this 112 pounds then I would have looked better. A good goal for our next trip. Kurt then took Sarah off to some of the older rides, while I went to the ski patrol training area with Kristen. She had a great time on the slides. Not sure what all Sarah and Kurt did, but I know that they went on the Toboggan Racers ride. After we joined back up we spent some on the lazy river Cross Country Creek, then back to the Teamboat Springs. This time we rode the ski lift to the top. It was much easier to get to the top but had to wait in line forever for our turn. On the way up we met a nice family from Hawaii. They each rode in the single rider line. If Kristen would be older this would be the route to go. After playing for a little longer, we noticed that clouds were building up. Kurt and I decided that it would be a good time to head back to the resort. I was really good about making sure that everyone had sunscreen on so no one received any burns except for me. Ouch.

When we got back to our resort everyone including Sarah and myself was tired and ending up taking a short nap. Decided to go to DTD for supper and to walk around. We tried to eat a few places but there was no room, so finally ended up at Earl of Sandwich. All I can say is that we need one of those in Eastern Iowa. YUM. Kristen had the Pizza Sandwich for Children, Kurt and Sarah had the Earl's Club and I had the Full Montagu. After eating spent more time walking around and spending money. Disney has way to many things that make you want to spend your money.

Miles Walked 4.3+
Steps Walked 9750 +
Activity Points 4+

Miles, steps, and points not accurate today. Didn't wear pedometer for most of the day since we were at BB.
