Day 8 - December 29, 2006
Today was supposed to be our last day at Disney, but Chris and I had decided
we wanted to stay an extra night. So, when we woke up, we had to move to
our new room. I waited while Chris went down to check us out of the old
room and into the new room, and then we set off to find the new one.
It was on a different floor, with a Standard (parking lot) view, and also
happened to be an accessible room. All of that was fine with us, and soon
we were settled into the new room. The plan for the day was just to take it
easy, visit some resorts, and then meet up with the others for dinner, later
on.
So- we set off, we visited several resorts, and then hit the Wilderness
Lodge. We wandered around- and even headed over to the Villas to check out
the Iron Spike Room, the fitness center, the other pool, etc. Then we took
the long path down to the marina, and made our way around to the Wilderness
Lodge pool. At this point, we realized that it was close to time for the
geyser to go off, and we've never seen that. We lined up along the railing,
with cameras ready- and then it went off!
And, we got soaked. Seriously, soaked. Neither one of us took into account
the way the wind was blowing. Before we could get a picture, we ended up
running from the geyser, but weren't fast enough. We grabbed some towels by
the pool, dried off as quickly and as well as we could, and then took stock
of the digital cameras. Thankfully things still worked, but we just weren't
going to dry quickly, so we decided to head back inside and explore the
resort.
We found the Sunrise Terrace, the Sunset Terrace, all the little seating
nooks on the different floors. We took the elevator up as high as we could,
and then walked down the stairs circling each floor to see what sort of
things they had on display. About an hour later, we'd checked out the gift
shop, and were still a little damp. Finally Chris was convinced that we
wouldn't ruin the seats in the car and we headed out.
I decided that we needed a picture of each resort sign, so we drove around
and got those, and then Annette called. The plan was for us to meet up with
everyone at Carraba's and they offered to drive. So, we headed back to the
Dolphin where we left our car, and hopped into theirs. On the way to the
restaurant, Joe told us about his afternoon- he had done the Richard Petty
Driving Experience. We told them about the geyser.
We got to the restaurant, parked the car, and just as the door shut behind
us, the skies opened up. There was a huge downpour- which unfortunately,
Deb, Rick and Kayla got caught in. Soon though, they were inside and we
were all seated and checking out the menu. Chris and I decided to split the
chicken marsala, which was pretty good.
The meal was great- and we had a wonderful time hanging out with the others
and relaxing. Eventually though, we had to head back, and after saying
goodbye to Deb, Rick and Kayla, the rest of us piled into the car and Chris
and I were dropped off at the Dolphin. We made tentative plans to meet up
with Annette and Joe for drinks later that night and then headed up to our
room, to relax a bit and also try and get things organized for our return
home the following day.
Later on, Chris and I decided to check out a few more resorts, and ended up
at the Polynesian. We wandered around for a while and decided to get some
food at Captain Cooks. I had read that they'd put in the computer touch
screens for ordering, so surprised Chris with them, and let him place the
order. We ended up splitting a double cheese burger, which was yummy.
After the meal, we headed back to the Dolphin and decided to head over to
the Boardwalk Bakery.
When it rains- the Boardwalk gets VERY slippery. The flipflops we had on
weren't helping things all that much, but we managed to get there without
killing ourselves. On the way, Annette called and said that she was going
to call it a night early because she wasn't feeling well, so we picked up
some goodies at the bakery for them and dropped them off at the front desk.
Then Chris and I took ours back to the hotel and settled in for a quiet
night.
