May 2nd:
Animal Kingdom- Mom decided to not ride Expedition Everest, but I still wanted to ride it twice so we took off for EE and there decided that we would just FP it for one ride. With FP in hand we headed over to Dinosaur. This was my fifth time riding it and first time with my eyes open! Mom asked at the end why on earth Derek and I thought that was scary? We couldn't explain it either. We then
returned to EE and I loved it. It is pure Disney Magic and there is still a section of the ride that I just cannot figure out how they did it. This is an amazing ride. We left there and headed to Flights of Wonder. I ran ahead and got FP for the Safari and Derek and Mom enjoyed a pre-show with an owl. Derek loves this show, so I
have learned to plan to go to the first show. And for the second time he got the opportunity to photograph that owl flying into his face! This really is a great show and if anyone in your party likes birds at all you must see it. We headed off to It's Tough to Be A Bug-3D. As we sat down in the theatre, I turned to Derek and asked
him if he thought I should point out some of the gags to mom. He said "PatsyAnn is an adult, let her just experience it." I think we had more fun watching her react to the gags than she actually enjoyed them. That last one when the bugs crawl under your bum was just hilarious. After the show we headed off to the Safari. We all enjoyed it, but it was a hot day so there were a number of my favorite animals hiding in the shade.
Lunch was at Tusker House. This was a first for Derek and I and I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I enjoyed the 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken served with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, Derek had the Fried Chicken Sandwich - served with steak fries, and Mom enjoyed the Turkey Wrap with corn chowder.
As we wandered out of Africa we ran into Stitch and mom did a meet and greet. He was hilarious. Then we checked out some shops before seeing Pocahontas and friends. The show was cute, Derek handled the snake moment well, and mom got a leaf for her book. I think that Derek might have actually seen the Grandmother Willow transformation which he always misses. And the singing was just beautiful. We followed this with Festival of the Lion King. Mom was blown away by this show. "It was better than a Broadway Show!" The monkey were a hoot and the birds took flight. Wow! What a show. We left Camp Minnie & Mickey to get some photos with Tigger, Pooh, Eeyore, and Piglet. Pooh and Derek really hit it off and Tigger gave PatsyAnn a big Birthday Hug. For the last ride of the day we hit Kali River Rapids. Mom loved this ride. As soon as our boat finished and the CM asked if we wanted to go again she said yes before we could even change her mind. And boy oh boy did we get soaked. Mom had on a $.99 poncho, so she didn't get too wet. This really is a fun ride, but you need to ride it twice. We exited KRR and entered the Tigers and Bats trail. This was a great time of day to explore it. It was not crowded and all of the animals were out. I was very impressed with how mom and Derek dealt with being so close to the fruit bats. Man those are big bats.
After the trail it was time now for that wonderful Parade! We danced and laughed and pointed and photographed the whole parade. I love this parade. At the end we decided to hit the trail in Africa to see the Gorillas. Did I mention that Gorillas and monkeys freak me out? Well we spent some time checking them out and then headed out to AKL.
Dinner tonight was at Boma and it had its own surprise in store. As we entered AKL friends of PatsyAnn's that live in Florida walked right up to us. Poor PatsyAnn was just overwhelmed and couldn't believe that we had arranged this. Dinner was amazing and Derek and I plan on eating at Boma again and again. After dinner we poked around ALK and then headed to DTD for a bus change and a tiny bit of shopping.
