The Powless Family - May 2006

Pop Century Resort room 2459 50's section

Day 2 - May 15th, 2006

BTW, my wife didn't know about the new weight limits for luggage, so we had to redistribute the weight among the 4 checked bags. We also applied our ME tags, that seemed to make it all real and it finally sunk in that we are going to DISNEY!!!

We ate some snacks for breakfast and planned on eating at the airport, so we got our bags and we walked down to the lobby and the shuttle bus was right there and next thing we know we are on our way to O'Hare, it took only a few minutes. He dropped us off at the correct gate area, we walked in and went down to the far right and checked our luggage, as we already printed boarding passes on the internet the night before. We are flying Ted Airlines.

We checked the luggage and went thru security, our one point that made me and my wife the most nervous. The girls had never been thru this and we coached them on things not to say and what to do, but you never know how kids will react. We all made it thru with out any problems.

We got some breakfast at the McDonalds and waiting for our flight. After sometime they said over the PA that they are overbooked and are looking for anyone who will give up their seat. They said the plane that came in was not a Ted plane, but united Airline plane. It has a first class and lots less regular seats, so we held our breath and made it on the plane.

My oldest daughter almost flipped out and nearly went crazy, but she held it together and she ended up loving the flight. I will never forget the sounds on the plane, all the kids crying and whimpering before we took off, then once we got airborne all the kids ooing and ahhing like the fourth of July. It's different going to Orlando vs flying other areas, the large population of kids on these flights.

The flight went with out problems, nothing special about Ted, although we didn't really fly Ted on this leg. So, United was as usual, nothing special. They had the usual music, and some NBC TV type show stuff. I finished the last book in the Potter series; don't get me started on that, what an ending that was. That's another story for another time.

We landed at MCO and deplaned, rode the tram and went to the A-side of the airport. We checked in to ME and got in the line for our location, Pop Century. We got right on the bus and we were the first stop on the transfer. I remember watching the burnt not so happy people coming off the buses and wondered if we would look like that when we were doing the same thing. I also felt sad for them because their trip is all over. But ours is just beginning and we are excited.

We arrived and checked in at the desk got our key to the world and walked to our room, a walk we will dred for the next 10 days. We got to our room and we were in shock at the resort and how over the top the theming is, we loved it. The pools looked so cool and the room was very nice. It wasn't a deluxe, but for what we needed it was perfect. We took in the view from up here and we could see the tower of terror, and spaceship earth. This meant we could see the Illuminations from our room; we could also hear and see Fantasmic from our room. On the other side of the lake we could see the building for the early years or what ever you call it. This was kinda an eyesore as it was not finished and looked like a plane version of this side of the lake.

We changed (we packed swimsuits in our carry on) and went down to the pool, we bought some of the mugs and we drank some cokes and frozen cokes. We swam for a while and I started reading the Da Vinci Code. We had ADR's for Ohanas that night and we were excited to see MK again.

We rode the bus to the MK and rode the monorail to the Poly, btw we were late. I kept telling Amanda that we need to leave lots of time to get to there. We checked in and waited just a few minutes and what an amazing meal we had!!! We all loved something different, I liked the shrimp. The girls learned to dance and we had a great time, Aloha!!

Oh, I almost forgot about the Captain Morgan's, when were at the pool I noticed someone had a pint and they were pouring it in their mug of coke making a rum and coke, I thought that was cool, must save them tons of money. I looked at Amanda, and said I wish I would have thought of that. Now, we are not big drinkers but a drink now and then would be nice. Well we were at the poly and they had the booze there, so we bought one for $11.00, if you're into this it's a great money saving tip. We mixed it with the frozen coke and/or blue frozen stuff. This was tons cheaper than the $7.00 drinks at the bar.

We ended up falling asleep later after swimming in the cold air. It was real windy and cold that night.

High point: so many to list, just actually being at Disney
Low point: Being so far from the Hippy Dippy Pool and refill station.
