Skamarakas Family - April 2006

Cast of Characters - Jim (dad, age 29 - well, at least that's all he'll admit to); Anna (mom, age 41); Brighid (DD age 14); Eilis (DD age 5); Granuaile (DD who turns 1 on our trip!)

Bonus Day

So the wake up call comes in at about 6:30, and we are all still laying in bed at 7 when the room service breakfast comes to the door. We slowly roll out - well, at least Jim, Brighid and I do. We take quick showers, my head is so stuffed I can barely breathe, but I know I'll feel better with a hot shower and some good drugs (nothing Rush Limbaugh good, just DayQuil).

Because the little kids are sleeping, a lot of the breakfast goes to waste. We eat some of it, and they nibble a little when we wake them, but nothing substantial is going into the kids. We hop in the car about 8:30 and we're on our way - then Jim says, "We can either get right on the road, or stop at Universal." Well, what am I, stupid? Extend the vacation by another few hours or head right home. How quickly the long walk from the parking garage into the park seems so much shorter!

We are only going to do one or two things, then head out, because we really have to get on the road. Jim has to be in San Diego on Monday, and it's Saturday. We're pushing it.

We arrive just as they are opening, and we check again on the prices of the Express passes - still $40. There is a bit of a line at the Meal Deal kiosk, but we are using all of this to our advantage and heading right onto the rides. Before our few hours here are over, we will have done Jimmy Neutron, Men In Black, Back to the Future, ET, The Barney Show, Woody Woodpecker roller coaster, and we've met Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Suit. It's about 11, so we decide to get on the road and eat lunch while we travel instead of in the park. We browse one shop on the way out, skip the souvenirs, and head to the car.

We have an eventful ride home, wrought with traffic, accidents, and our own car breaking down in Georgia. But we arrive home Sunday evening in time to do a quick load of laundry and re-pack Jim for his week in California :-)

No matter how many times we go, how sick someone is, or how few hours we spend in the parks, Disney never seems to lose the magic for me. I know it's starting to wear out on my hubby, but as long as he doesn't mind me going alone with the kids, that's okay :-)
