Disney’s Contemporary Resort opened on October 1, 1971 when Magic Kingdom opened. Where modern meets nostalgia, The Contemporary has it all. It’s unique A-Frame sets this resort apart from all of the others at Walt Disney World, even a Monorail runs through the Grand Canyon Concourse!
Disney’s Contemporary Resort Rooms
There are two sections of this resort, the garden wing, and the tower. The garden wing is a shorter section of the resort near Bay Lake. The standard room sleeps 5 with two queen beds and a daybed in each room. The garden rooms offer both standard and garden views. The tower rooms offer either Magic Kingdom views or Bay Lake views. There are also a variety of suites available in each section of the resort.

Feature Pool: 6500 sq ft which includes a 17-foot high curving slide. The smaller Bay Lake Pool is a round, quiet pool which is shallow on the outside and deeper in the center. Lifeguards at the feature pool are on duty from 9 a.m.-11 p.m.

For a fun and more relaxing way to spend a day during your visit to Walt Disney World, each resort hosts Poolside Activities each day from 1:30 – 7:00 p.m.. Pool hours and lifeguard availability vary by pool. Activities and programs are subject to change. Although the activities vary by day and by resort, examples of what you might find include trivia, arts and crafts, dance parties, games, bingo, and more.
Pool Side Cabanas:
There are 4 poolside Cabanas for rent located in the four corners of the Bay Lake Pool. Cabanas include 2 chaise lounge chairs, 2 chaise beds, locking cabinet, DVD Player (upon request), LCD TV with cable, ipod docking station, mini-frig w/complimentary sodas & water, and complimentary fruit basket.

Transportation Times Between Contemporary Resort and Disney Destinations
Disney’s Monorail service is available to the Magic Kingdom and via transfer to Epcot. The monorail station is on the 4th floor of the resort. Disney’s bus service is available to and from this resort to theme parks, water parks, plus Disney Springs. The bus locations are to the right of the lobby as you exit the hotel. A walking path to the Magic Kingdom is also available as you walk past the bus stops.
These times are approximate, provided to give you an idea of average travel times. Please plan on up to a 20 minute wait for Disney transportation in addition to walking time to resort or theme park transportation stops.

Epcot – 22 minutes by monorail, 22 minutes by car
Disney’s Hollywood Studios – 22 minutes by bus, 23 minutes by car

Childcare at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
There are no on-site childcare options available for Disney’s All-Star Movies. However, Kid’s Nite Out, an in-room child care service, is available at all resorts for children 6 months to 12 years old. Services are available 24/7.
The Walt Disney World Dolphin offer a Children’s Activity Center option and you do not have to be a guest at that resort to use the Children’s Activity Center. Camp Dolphin

If you eat early at the California Grill, you can return later with your receipt to watch the Magic Kingdom Happily Ever After fireworks from the roof. They turn down the lights and pipe in the music…very romantic.
I like that there are two separate check-ins for both Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower. Also, it’s important to note that you cannot use the pool at Bay Lake Tower unless you’re staying at Bay Lake Tower and only Disney Vacation Club members can access the Top of the World Lounge. One of my favorite spots to watch Happily Ever After is on the big verandah off of the Grand Canyon Concourse.
Contempo Cafe is a great counter service spot with tasty desserts.
Views from the Resort: This resort is comprised of the A-frame tower and one garden wing. One side of the tower has a view of Bay Lake and a view of the Magic Kingdom on the other. Do you want to be able to see the Magic Kingdom from your room? You can do it at Disney’s Contemporary Resort! Choose a theme park view and enjoy!
There is boat transportation to Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness Resort.
