Shopping: Located across from The Haunted Mansion, “Memento Mori” sells a wide variety of Haunted Mansion-inspired merchandise, ranging from t-shirts to candy to upscale kitchenware.
Dining/Refreshment: Three counter service restaurants in Liberty Square, Columbia Harbour House, Sleepy Hollow, and Liberty Square Market, specialize in seafood; creative waffle sandwiches; and hearty sandwiches, sides, and fruit, respectively. Table service dining is offered for lunch and dinner at the Colonial Williamsburg-inspired Liberty Tree Tavern.
Restroom: The closest restrooms, themed after Tangled, are located in Fantasyland just past the border with Liberty Square.

- The Haunted Mansion commences in the “stretching room,” where the “Ghost Host” introduces the upcoming adventure. Unlike Disneyland’s stretching rooms, which double as elevators, the Magic Kingdom’s two stretching rooms are effectively stationary.
- The mansion structure is a façade. The bulk of The Haunted Mansion occurs in a show building hidden from guests through landscaping.
- The ride vehicles utilized in The Haunted Mansion are called “Doom Buggies.”
- Riders can experience a plethora of amazing effects throughout The Haunted Mansion, including dancing ghosts, an endless hallway, hovering staircases, and the floating head of a Madame Leota.
- The names on the tombstones outside The Haunted Mansion are those of the actual Imagineers who developed the attraction.
- A tribute to Mr. Toad, the protagonist of “The Wind in the Willows” segment of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1950), is made in the pet cemetery outside The Haunted Mansion. “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride,” a popular attraction in Fantasyland, closed in 1999 and was replaced by “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.”
- The Haunted Mansion inspired the 2003 movie of the same name starring Eddie Murphy, as well as the 2023 movie of the same name.

History
- The Haunted Mansion is one of 12 attractions remaining in some form from the Magic Kingdom’s opening day, October 1, 1971. The others are “Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel” (now Prince Charming Regal Carrousel), “Dumbo the Flying Elephant,” “Hall of Presidents,” It’s a Small World, “Jungle Cruise,” “Mad Tea Party,” “Peter Pan’s Flight,” “Swiss Family Treehouse,” “Tropical Serenade” (now Enchanted Tiki Room), “Grand Prix Raceway” (now Tomorrowland Speedway), and “Walt Disney World Railroad.”
- The original Haunted Mansion debuted at Disneyland Park in California on August 9, 1969. The façade was completed in 1963, but the official opening was delayed for six years due to numerous factors, including Disney’s participation in the 1964 New York World’s Fair and Walt Disney’s sudden death. The exterior of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion does not resemble that of a rundown haunted house because Walt Disney wanted the action to take place inside the building, not outside.
- The Haunted Mansion’s theme song is “Grim Grinning Ghosts (The Screaming Song).” The lyrics to this tune were written by X Atencio (Francis Xavier Atencio), who is honored through one the tombstones outside the attraction. Atencio also wrote the lyrics to “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)” from Pirates of the Caribbean.
- The Haunted Mansion’s queue received an update in 2011 to include interactive elements. These features include interactive tombstones and musical activities.
