Overlooked Children’s Activities at Walt Disney World

Pony Rides

Little ones can climb aboard the petite ponies at Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. Afterward, they may even get to see Cinderella’s Ponies! Pony rides are offered daily with the last ride of the day 30 minutes prior to close. Riders must be at least 3 years of age, under 80 pounds, no taller than 48 inches and able to hang on by themselves. A parent or guardian must lead the pony at all times. The cost is $10 per person.  Tax is not included. No reservations are necessary, as this is only available as on a walk-in basis.

Fort Wilderness Archery Experience

Located at the Bike Barn at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, this adventure is for guest 7 years of age and up.  The archery experience runs between 11:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. daily.  The cost is $49 per person, but tax is not included.  Guests will learn how to use a compound bow from an Archery Guide and then spend most of the 75 minute experience shooting at targets.  There is a designated viewing area for those who would like to watch but not participate in the experience.

This activity is limited to ten guests.  Reservations are strongly recommended, but walk-ups are welcome if there is a vacancy.

Canoe and Kayak Rentals

If you’d enjoy a leisurely afternoon exploring the waterways of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, rent a canoe or kayak!  Canoe or kayak (pick your favorite!) rentals are $15 per person per hour.  Safety is a priority.  Guests of all ages must wear complimentary life jackets.  One must be 18 years or older to rent a canoe or kayak, but with guardian permission a 12 year old or teen may enjoy their own boat.

Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long

Tune up those vocal cords to enjoy an old fashioned sing-a-long at the Fort Wilderness Resort!   While a cast member runs the program, our favorite chipmunks pay a visit.  Chip and Dale bring their nutty antics to the program which delights guests of all ages.  Bring your own marshmallows to roast, or buy a s’mores kit to enjoy.  A family friendly Disney movie airs after Chip and Dale make their appearance.   Benches are available, but guests can bring their own chairs or blankets for seating.  Pro Tip:  If you have a refillable popcorn bucket for the parks, be sure to get some popcorn in a park to save for the movie.  Attending this activity is free.

Fort Wilderness Wagon Ride

For those wanting a leisurely tour of the Fort Wilderness Resort, this wagon ride is the ticket to sight seeing and relaxing.  Wagon rides occur on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM weather permitting.  The ride starts at Pioneer Hall, home of the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue, and lasts for 25 minutes.  Also, reservations are not available.  Consequently, guests must be at Pioneer Hall at a minimum of 20 minutes before the rides begins.  Payment choices are cash or magic band.  The cost is $15 for guests age 10 and up and $10 for guests 3 to 9 years old.  Guests must be able to climb a few steps to get into the wagon.  In addition, inclement weather may cause this experience to be cancelled.

Access to the Fort Wilderness Resort may be restricted to Fort Wilderness guests and to those with dining and activity reservations at the resort during peak seasons.

Bicycle Rentals

Do some exploration by pedaling through beautiful resorts!  Adult size and child size bicycles are available to rent at Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Spring’s Resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort, and at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.  Also, training wheels are available for little tikes.  The cost to rent a bicycle per hour is $9 to $20 dollars.  Tax is not included.  However, helmets and child seats are complimentary.  According to Florida state law, bicyclists under the age of 16 must wear a helmet.  Additionally, bicyclists must stay within resort limits while enjoying their ride.

Arcades

Get your game on!  Most Walt Disney World resorts have arcades to guests to play against each other or try to beat their personal score.   Kiosks inside each arcade are available for game card purchases.  Have cash or a credit card on hand.  All resorts accept the game cards.  Therefore, hold onto those cards in case you go resort hopping.

Miniature Golf

Play a round of miniature golf at one of Walt Disney World’s two well themed courses.  The cost is $19 per adult and $12 per child ages 3 – 9; however, a free round of miniature golf is frequently in the Magical Extras when guests book to stay at a Walt Disney World Resort.

Firstly, the Winter Summerland Miniature Golf located at Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park celebrates the Christmas holidays year round!  There are two courses at this venue.  To begin with, The Summer Course features a beach theme with holiday decorations.  Next, snow is the theme for the Winter Course.  Watch out for a snowman who tends to squirt water!

Secondly, the Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf offer the whimsy of Fantasia.  This course is near the Swan and Dolphin Resorts.  Fantasia Gardens is the easier of the two courses, and Fantasia Fairways offers more of a challenge that would be fun for older kids and teens.

Bowling

Does your family need an air conditioned afternoon?  For this purpose, head to Splitsville Luxury Lanes at Disney Springs.  Prices and bowling time vary depending upon time of day and party size.  If bowling strikes up an appetite, then you’re in the right place!  Indulge in a meal or snacks with Splitsville’s popular menu.
