On Sunday, March 12th, Disney’s newest water park attraction, Miss Adventure Falls, opened under gray skies at Typhoon Lagoon.
The story of the ride is that of Captain Mary Oceaneer, who is stranded on Typhoon Lagoon with her ship, treasures, and pet parrot.
Tucked behind the Crush ’n’ Gusher attraction, Miss Adventure Falls is not built on the recently closed Shark Reef attraction but in a spot that was formerly used as a seating area.
The queuing portion of the ride is nice, but I was not wowed.
Up to four guests can ride in each raft. Even though the posted rules recommend two to four riders per raft, I had no problem enjoying the attraction as a single rider. There are no height restrictions, but children who aren’t able to hold on to the raft handles will not be allowed on the ride.
Once you board your raft, you go up a conveyor belt, passing Mary’s wrecked ship where her audio-animatronic parrot is still on the lookout for treasure. A little further on, you pass a screeching large crate dangling over your head.
If the ride operates properly, it will take a bit over a minute from the moment you board the raft till you arrive at the top of the conveyor belt.
The 58-second journey down takes you through tunnels with twists, turns, and waterfalls. It takes several rides to discover the décor along the route. However, don’t expect anything elaborate. It is a water park ride, people!
Opening day was cloudy and cold (69 F at 10:00 a.m., followed by pouring rain by noon), which resulted in low park attendance. The waiting time never exceeded 10 minutes, even when the ride came to a stop due to unloading issues.
I really like the fact that one does not have to walk upstairs or carry tubes to the top of the attraction. It is nice to simply sit in the raft and be transported up the conveyor belt. The ride is perfect for families and for those who do not enjoy some of the more extreme rides such as Humunga Kowabunga.
The queuing area is not very long; loading and getting out are slow and labor-intensive for the Cast Members. I do see troubles ahead on busy days. I also wish Disney would have developed the theming of the queuing area and the ride itself more. If you are visiting during the busy times of year, and you are not into thrill rides, I recommend you make Miss Adventure Falls your first stop at park opening.
