On my last trip to Disneyland and California Adventure, I scoured the stores looking for budget souvenirs. I found several good options under $7.00* and even a handful under $5.00*. I wanted to highlight souvenirs that won’t break the bank since Disney vacations can be expensive. These are great for kids spending their own money, or adults who just don’t need to spend $18 on another mug, or when you need to bring a little something back for folks at home.
I looked in stores in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. In Disneyland I visited the Emporium shops and Candy Palace on Main Street as well as the Gag Factory in Toontown. In California Adventure I went to Elias and Co and Big Top Toys on Buena Vista Street, and Gone Hollywood in Hollywood Land. I also found a couple items at Humphrey’s Service and Supplies in the Grizzly Peak Airfield area.
Many of the budget souvenirs I found can actually be found in multiple shops across the Disneyland Resort including Downtown Disney and the Disneyland Hotels. It helps to look in the cash register area. Also, some items meet the under $7.00* price individually but drop to under $5.00* when you buy multiples, very helpful if you’re purchasing the same type of souvenir for more than one person.
Magnets, key chains and antenna toppers are probably the most popular items in the budget souvenir category. They are small, so easy to pack and take home, and something you can easily use and see every day to remind you of your magical vacation.
Plush stuffed animals are a popular choice, but can often be too big to pack. Tsum Tsums are a perfect way to overcome that problem. They fit nicely in your hand and they are a great deal if you buy four at a time. As they come in many different characters, you’ll be sure to find one of your favorites.
For any vehicle lovers in your group, check these budget souvenirs out! Big headed characters in cars that are great for small hands to steer; airplanes to remember the Grizzly Airfield area of California Adventure (be sure to check the price tags as some of them go over our $7.00 limit); and traditional die cast Racers in the style of many characters from Fab Five to Star Wars to Marvel. Take your pick!
If you’re looking for very small souvenirs that take up hardly any space, how about buttons or pieces of magic? Pieces of magic are metal pieces a bit bigger than a quarter. Tuck them into a pocket to keep the magic close even when your vacation has ended.
A couple toys worth noting are glitter bouncy balls, slap bracelets, and articulated Minnie and Mickey figures. The size and durability of these figures makes them a great deal.
Maybe you’re looking for something to do back in your hotel room, I suggest a deck of cards or a coloring book.
Make meal times at home more magical with a sandwich/cookie cutter or corn on the cob holders.
If you want to bring a sweet treat home to friends, I suggest the chocolate coins or Mickey Mouse lollipops. Another consumable item is a tin of mints. These are my personal favorite as I can reuse the tin when the delicious mints are gone.
Of course, the most inexpensive souvenir of all is a pressed penny with a total cost of 51¢.
