On my recent weekend jaunt down to Orlando, we went to Universal Orlando for Halloween Horror Nights. My party and I decided we wanted to eat before the event started and so we decided to make a stop in the quick service location, Louie’s Italian Restaurant.
Louie’s which is found in Universal Studios Florida in the New York section, feels like an authentic Italian eatery that you would find around the corner from your house. With red and white checkered drapes on the windows, black and white tile throughout, and the smells of Italian delights wafting through the air. The restaurant has a traditional New York vibe. Louie’s is home to Italian favorites like pizza, pasta, meatball subs, and salads.
To order, Guests wait in line and then order at a counter, pay, and then wait for their food. Mine took a little longer than I hoped, but I could see that all the pasta dishes were cooked to order. (The pizza and the salads were sitting waiting for Guests to order, much like a mall pizza restaurant would be.)
It was a nice evening, so we chose to sit outside, as there are a number of tables to choose from down the “side alley”.
As far as our party went, my brother got the Spaghetti and Meatballs. It was a good sized portion of spaghetti with two very decent sized meatballs. It was served with a breadstick and it was absolutely filling. He got the Cesar Salad and said the lettuce was very fresh.
My husband got combo which was a slice of Pepperoni Pizza and a Cesar Salad. The pizza slice was huge. It was honestly a quarter of a whole large pizza.
As for my dish, I wanted to try something a little different. I saw the option for Spaghetti Bolognese. However, this was not an ordinary option. The pasta was actually gluten free. As far as the meat goes, it was actually made from plant-based Gardein™ Italian sausage crumbles. There was no bolognese option on the menu with meat, so this was it.
Now at first, I was a little hesitant. I like my meat and I didn’t know how much I would enjoy this plant based option. However, after my first bite, I realized that the dish was quite good. I wouldn’t have been able to tell you this this wasn’t really meat! The crumbles really had an authentic sausage flavoring and it had the consistency of meat. I devoured this easily and highly recommend this dish to vegetarians and non vegetarians alike! Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s not meat based!
Overall, I very much enjoyed our meal at Louie’s Italian Restaurant. I appreciated that it wasn’t a traditional theme park restaurant and had some familiar favorites, for those who are pickier, but also some options for those looking for something a little different.
