Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is an annual event at the Magic Kingdom and runs 7 PM till midnight on select nights. Even though not officially announced Disney will start letting guests with tickets for the special event into the park as of 4 PM. This is a great way to square away a few rides and have dinner before enjoying the special activities of the night. Your first action however should be to arm yourselves with the special events map, better yet download the map in advance of your visit and study it before you even get to the park.
Upon arrival guests receive a wristband and a bag for trick-or-treating. There are several trick-or-treating stations throughout the park and two trick-or-treat trails in addition to the individual stations. If collecting lots of candy is important to your kids I suggest you bring your own trick-or-treating bag or empty the Disney provided bag in a bag pack. There is no limit to how many time you can visit a station, so go for it! My favorite trick-or-treating area is in Frontierland next to Splash Mountain. The best treat here is that at the end of the candy trail you can get your picture taken with Snow White’s Seven Dwarfs.
New this year: Jack Skellington and Sally from Tim Burton’s “Nightmare Before Christmas.” will be greet guests on Main Street U.S.A. and Phineas and Ferb will be warm up the crowd ahead of the Boo-to-You! Parade. And don’t forget to meet Mickey and Minnie in their Halloween attire at Town Hall.
Disney Villains’ Dance, Mix and Mingle! is presented four times per night at Cinderella’s castle. It is a must see show and so is Happy HallowWishes at 9.30 PM preceded by Celebrate the Magic at 9.15 PM. The best viewing locations are from Main Street and of course from the hub right in front of the castle.
Nothing however is more exciting than the Boo-To-You parade. The parade begins in Frontierland and is performed at 8.15 PM and again at 10.30 PM. It is easier to get a great spot for the second parade but keep in mind the ever-changing weather in Florida. If the second parade is cancelled due to inclement weather you will have missed the best event of the entire evening. I love the spark-flying parade so much that I carve out time to watch it twice!
Two dance parties are perfect for happy feet. Woody’s Happy Harvest Roundup in The Diamond Horseshoe in Liberty Square and premiering this year on the Rockettower Plaza are Mike and Sulley, the hosts of the Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball dance party.
Avid Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom will be delighted to know that an exclusive trading card is available to them as a special treat for attending the Halloween Party. I suggest you get your card as soon as distribution starts which is officially at 7 PM but Disney started distribution as early as 4 PM in the past days and they regularly run out of them way before the night is over. You must present your original event ticket and wear your wristband. Both are required to receive your exclusive 2013 Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Sorcerers card.
Needless to say that the park is decorated for the occasion and special Halloween merchandise temps guests everywhere. And did I mention the Halloween themed deserts and my all time favorite gore caramel apples?
The night would not be complete without a visit to the Haunted Mansion, which is especially spooky for the occasion. Beware of hitchhiking ghosts!
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will be held on Sept. 20, 24, 27, 29; Oct. 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, 14, 17, 18, 20, 22, 24, 25, 27, 29, 31; and Nov 1. Buy your tickets here.
