La Hacienda de San Angel is located across from the Mexico pavilion in Epcot. Situated along the lagoon, this restaurant boasts tall windows that afford beautiful views of the World Showcase lagoon.
I had an advanced dining reservation at 5:45 and arrived 15 minutes early. I requested a table by the window and was seated immediately with a beautiful view.
The restaurant was uncrowded and quiet at this time but began to fill up during dinner. Our server promptly brought out warm tortilla chips with two kinds of salsa.
The drink menu offers many types of specialty margaritas.
The Mango Blueberry Basil Margarita sounded like an interesting choice. Exótíco 100% agave premium silver tequila, orange liqueur, and lime mix, served on the rocks with salt on the rim.
This was very good although not quite as good as the margaritas found at La Cava Del Tequila across the way inside the Mexico Pavilion. The rim had a chili powder mixed in with the salt that added some mild warmth.
If you are in the mood for something stronger, they also offer a variety of tequila flights and specialty single shots such as the Mezcalero #7.
La Hacienda has about 7 entrees to choose from with dishes including beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, and tilapia.
The Tacos de Camarones: Fried shrimp, chipotle-lime aioli, cabbage, lime and salsa verde, all served over flour tortillas.
This dish was excellent. Everything tasted fresh and the sauce was amazing. I can’t wait to go back and order this again.
The Costillas en Salsa de Chile: Braised shorts ribs, served with potato puree and chile de árbol sauce.
This was also very good. The meat was tender without being fatty.
Both dishes are served with sides of shareable rice and beans.
After dinner, you’ll want to give into temptation and choose from one of the four desserts offered.
The Empanada de Manzana:Puff pastry filled with sauteed caramel apples, served with dulce de leche ice cream and cajeta (caramel sauce).
Presented beautifully, this tastes just as good as it looks. Delicious!
The Helado de Maiz: Corn ice cream served with candied popcorn.
The uniqueness of this dessert prompted a try. This was like eating popcorn flavored ice cream with pieces or crunchy frozen corn in it and then sprinkled with stale popcorn. The texture was offputting and I wouldn’t recommend ordering it.
Overall, I enjoyed La Hacienda very much and would not hesitate to eat here again. The atmosphere was beautiful, the food was excellent and the service was friendly. If you are looking to linger over a drink before eating dinner, I would hold off on ordering your entrée or inform your server. The food arrived literally 5 minutes after ordering which is nice if you’re in a rush to make your fast pass to Soarin but not so nice if you’re looking for a relaxing dinner after a busy day in the park.
Many people try to book later reservations hoping to see Illuminations from their table. Keep in mind, not all tables are window seats and not all requests can be granted. I do find arriving early, asking politely and being prepared to wait always increases the chances of requests being granted. I hope you enjoy your next dinner at La Hacienda de San Angel.
