Katsura Grill is a quick service restaurant located inside the Japan Pavilion in World Showcase at Epcot. Perched across from Mitsukoshi Department Store, Katsura is somewhat hidden and can be easily overlooked. I have always enjoyed the Koi pond and strolling the trails around Katsura and was anxious to try the restaurant for the first time.
Disney invites you to “Quiet your mind and your hunger in this serene setting as you listen to the sound of distant taiko drums. Enjoy teriyaki, sushi, chicken cutlet curry, savory pancakes, salads and more. Draft beer, sake and plum wine are also available.”
The menu is displayed out front with various Japanese cuisine. Prices are reasonable and some items are a decent value compared to other World Showcase restaurants.
The Udon Noodle Bowl had thick soft noodles in a very flavorful broth. I was surprised how much I liked this and would definitely try it again with beef or tempura shrimp.
The Teriyaki Chicken is dark meat served with steamed rice and vegetables. The teriyaki sauce was very sweet and tangy and the chicken was tender and moist.
The Chicken Cutlet Curry is a lightly fried cutlet, topped with beef curry sauce and served over steamed rice. The chicken itself was very good; however I was not a fan of the sauce. I found it had a very strong curry flavor that was a little too much spice for me. I know many people enjoy this dish so I would definitely give it a try if your palate is more adventurous.
There is limited air conditioned seating indoors and additional seating in the outdoor gardens.
The outdoor seating area is the biggest perk for eating at Katsura Grill; soft background music, tranquil waterfalls, and pretty lanterns make for a peaceful environment while you dine. In fact you feel so far removed from the hustle and bustle that you don’t even feel like you’re in a theme park anymore.
Katsura Grill is a great place for lunch or dinner on your next trip to Epcot, especially if you’re looking for something less crowded and less busy than other places in World Showcase. The food is tasty and served up quickly, the prices are reasonable, portions are generous enough to be shared, and seating in the outdoor gardens provides one of the most beautiful views Epcot has to offer.
