Out of all the themes and detail that go into Disney pools, The Animal Kingdom Lodge pool has to be one of my favorites. As soon as you walk out into the Uzima pool area you are surrounding in tall grasses and Florida palms. Animal foot print are scattered throughout the ground made to look like an Africa trail. Even the pool has a zero depth entry to mimic a natural watering hole. But what has to be the best part of the theme is along the fence surrounding the pool is the Uzima savanna where you can look out and see the animals! The Uzima Savanna is home to a variety of African animals including giraffes, impala, kudu, and my favorite Thompson’s gazelles.
The pool is also a short walk away from Mara, one my favorite places to get a quick bite of something delicious. They have African inspired cuisine from Sambal chicken corn chowder to half chicken dinners. They also serve breakfast food until eleven and have the usual Disney food so you can be as adventurous with your food choices as you like, but my beloved zebra domes for dessert cannot be missed.
One of my favorite thing to do during Disney trips is go to the movies under the stars. The Uzima pool is great for this because you can actually swim at night while you watch the movie. Night swimming or just gathering around the pool seating to watch whatever Disney classic is on is fun for the whole family and my family always tries to see at least one movie by the pool.
Another great part about the theming of the pool is there are plenty of hidden away seating for relaxing and sunbathing. With the African grasses making a nice barrier you’re sure to find a quiet spot with plenty of sun to lay out and relax the day away. Even just walking around the pool area is amazing to see how the lodge surrounds the area. The straw of the roof overhang around the building. The fence made to look like wood from African trees. The slope of the rocks around the edge of the savannah that’s transports you to Africa is truly amazing. Exploring this pool area to find your favorite spot, or spot your favorite animal, is definitely worth it.
