Are you looking for a fun filled way to spend your evening with good ol’ classic country food, music, and entertainment? Look no further and head on over to Mickey’s Backyard BBQ!
Located within Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, this all-you-can-eat buffet and show featuring classic Disney characters is sure to please your hungry crowd. This event takes place in a covered pavilion. Upon entering the pavilion, your party will be seated at a long picnic table. You will sit with other guests outside your party. This is a serve yourself affair and a cast member will guide you in the direction of the buffet and drinks.
Soft drinks, lemonade, fruit punch, beer, and wine are included in the price of the experience. The buffet consists of classic barbecue fair including ribs, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, corn bread, corn on the cob, various salads, and macaroni and cheese. There is also a full desert bar.
The highlight of Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is the Rootin’ Tootin’ Hoedown. There is a live country band that does not disappoint, playing classic and current country hits. Characters are out on the dance floor and there is ample opportunity for lots of interaction. Have your autograph books and cameras ready as Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, and Dale will be in attendance, sporting their country and western outfits. There is also a very entertaining cowboy rope show that takes place.
Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is offered seasonally due to it being at an outdoor venue. Shows typically begin at 5:30 pm most Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from March through November. The cost ranges from $30-$60 per person. The Disney Dining Plan is accepted and takes two dining credits on the standard and deluxe plans and one dining credit on the premium and platinum plans. Since there is open seating, it is recommended that guests arrive 30 minutes prior to the show start time.
Transportation is a little tricky and may require some extra planning. Fort Wilderness is a large resort and has its own internal bus system. If you drive your own vehicle, be aware that you will be directed to a parking lot and will need to use the internal bus to get back to the pavilion. If you take a bus from a park to Fort Wilderness, you will need to transfer from the resort bus to the internal bus as well.
Overall, Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is a great experience. My family enjoyed it and we made the most of the experience by being out on the dance floor. This experience will be a hit with your family if you enjoy country music, character interaction, and good down-home country cooking!
