Summer temperatures have officially arrived in Florida! If you plan on visiting Walt Disney World this summer, there is no doubt that you will be looking for ways to stay cool on your vacation and I am guessing that frozen treats will be high on your snack list this season. There are a lot of great places to find ice cream at the Disney World Resort, but the new Ample Hills Creamery has quickly become one of my favorite places to grab an ice cream cone.
It seems that Disney Springs is getting all of the attention these days and when the Ample Hills Creamery opened up at Disney’s BoardWalk, it didn’t seem to get as much publicity as some of the other grand openings going on. Just in case you hadn’t heard that Ample Hills had opened up, I am here to tell you that this place is definitely worth checking out!
Ample Hills is conveniently located at Disney’s Boardwalk near the back gate to Epcot, the Yacht and Beach Club, and of course, the BoardWalk Inn. The decor inside is very cute and pays homage to the Disney parks.
The cast members were incredibly friendly and more than willing to share their favorite flavors and recommendations with us. They also offer samples if you want to try something before making your flavor selections. Even so, deciding what to get was tough because I wanted one of everything!
After much deliberation, I ordered a small cup which I would not really describe as small. It had two very generous scoops of ice cream and I was able to choose 2 flavors. This made me quite happy because I was having a really hard time deciding between the Nonna D’s Oatmeal Lace and the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. Both were very creamy and delicious and they were really good mixed together! I thought the size I ordered had plenty of ice cream, but they do offer a large so you can get FOUR scoops of ice cream if two just isn’t enough.
All of the ice cream is made in-house. Even the peanut butter cups in PB Wins the Cup are homemade! There are some unique options for cones, like cookie cones, that I don’t think you will find anywhere else. There is a lot of care put into each sundae, milkshake, cone, and cup and you can really taste the difference.
We visited Ample Hills in the afternoon and there were only a handful of people in the shop. When we went back by later in the evening, around the time Epcot was closing, there was a line out the door and the wait was about 20 minutes. I personally think it would be well worth the wait, but you may get in and out faster during the daytime.
I loved Ample Hills and I am already dreaming of my next ice cream treat. Be sure to stop by this summer if you have the chance!
Have you tried Ample Hills? What is your favorite flavor?
We visited Ample Hills in Brooklyn a few years ago at the recommendation of our daughter who lived there, and fell in love with it. I can’t wait to try it at WDW! It’s the real deal, a small business that grew quickly due to excellent attention to detail, quality, and great customer service. Hmm, sounds like a good match for WDW! 🙂
