Traveling with small children is a daunting task! Fortunately, Walt Disney World is literally made for families with kids. One of my favorite amenities for families with small children are the Baby Care Centers located in each Walt Disney World theme park.
The Baby Care Centers are air-conditioned, quiet locations within each park that offer a variety of amenities. In each Center there is space for nursing and microwaves to warm bottles or baby food. There is also a section of each Center for slightly older children where Disney movies are played and small chairs and tables are set up for those children to eat or just relax out of the heat. Finally, each Center offers changing tables that are usually far larger than those found in restroom locations. The changing tables in the Baby Care Centers are cleaned after each use which is absolutely wonderful!
These Centers welcome families of those with small children or those with children who may have some special needs that appreciate cool, quiet spaces as a break from the hustle and bustle of the parks. Although the amenities offered at the Baby Care Center at each park are similar, each Center differs from each other! Here is everything you need to know about the Baby Care Center at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Location
The Baby Care Center at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is located on Discovery Island. This particular Baby Care Center is a bit hidden, but the easiest way to find it is to locate Creature Comforts (which is the Starbucks location in Animal Kingdom). The Baby Care Center is located on the back side of this building, to the left of the Disney Vacation Club kiosk.
Entertainment
As you enter the Baby Care Center there is an attendant near the door. The attendant is there to help you find anything you may need within the Center, so feel free to ask if you have any questions! At the Baby Care Center at Animal Kingdom you can take a left turn and enter the “entertainment room” of the Center. In this room, benches line the walls while the middle of the room is full of child-sized tables and chairs. There is also a television showing Disney movies! On this particular trip they were showing Moana. I love these rooms because I can feed my youngest child in the air conditioning while my oldest has fun watching a movie.
Changing Area
If you continue straight when you enter the Baby Care Center, you’ll find the “baby” section of the Center. In this room there are six stand-alone changing tables. These tables are roughly the same size of what you would normally find in a home nursery. Each table has a changing pad on it that is covered with a sheet of paper (think: the paper you normally find in a doctor’s office over the exam chair). This paper is replaced after each child is changed. This ensures that the changing table is always clean for the next child!
On one wall of this room there are a couple of sinks, various supplies for sale and water dispensers. The sink on the left side of this photo is for hand wash only (it is closest to the changing tables).
Here is a closer look at the right side of the previous photo. This sink is for rinsing out bottles or other feeding utensils. There is also a bottle warmer and two purified water dispensers. The water dispensers can be used for just general drinking purposes (little cone cups are provided) or to mix bottles. The items on the shelves are available for purchase in case you forgot to pack something you need. Available items include: diapers, wipes, sunscreen, vaseline, bug spray, baby powder, sippy cups and a variety of child-safe medications. You’ll obviously pay a bit of a premium for these items but it’s nice to have them available just in case!
Feeding Area
Also located in the back section of the Baby Care Centers is a microwave for heating bottles or baby food. There are highchairs located here for convenience.
Finally, at the very back of the Baby Care Center are two private nursing rooms. This is somewhat unique to Animal Kingdom, as most parks do not have completely private rooms. These rooms are equipped with rocking chairs for nursing. They also have electric plugs in case you need them for a pumping session.
Overall, the Baby Care Center at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one of my favorites. It is typically not crowded and it’s one of the most spacious Centers on property.
