When traveling to Walt Disney World with your children, it is easy to find a lot of educational opportunities where you can have family fun while expanding the horizon of knowledge. Epcot is an amazing park offering innumerable educational opportunities! One of my children’s favorites is visiting the Kidcot Fun Spots in the World Showcase!
Each country represented in World Showcase will have a Kidcot Fun Spot location where children can meet a Cast Member from that country, learn something about the country or learn to say something in the national language, and often see where that country is on a map or globe compared to where they live.
The Kidcot Fun Stops will also offer a cardboard Duffy (Mickey Mouse’s teddy bear) that kids can color while visiting in each country. During Epcot’s festivals, you can also often find a special themed coloring picture. The pictures change to represent the special events such as the International Food & Wine Festival, the International Festival of Arts, or the Flower & Garden Festival. We’ve had a booklet with all of the plants from the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival and an art palette during the Festival of Arts with pictures to color.
You can also purchase an Epcot passport at many of the gift shops and souvenir carts. This passport kit costs about $10 and includes a World Showcase pin that your child can wear. When you take the passport to the Kidcot Fun Spots, the Cast Member representing that country will stamp your passport and write a message to your child. It is a great souvenir that can help your child remember what they learned around the world.
Participating at the Kidcot Fun Stops do not cost anything extra. Kidcot Fun Stops can be found at the below locations. If you have any trouble finding one though, ask a cast member in that area, they will be able to direct you!
- Mexico Pavilion (near Animales Fantasticos)
- Norway Pavilion (at The Puffin’s Roost)
- China Pavilion (near the exit of Reflections of China)
- Germany Pavilion (at Volkunst)
- Italy Pavilion (outside, near La Bottega Italiana)
- American Adventure Pavilion (outside, near Heritage Manor Gifts)
- Japan Pavilion (in the Bijutsu-kan Gallery)
- Morocco Pavilion (at the Marketplace in the Medina)
- France Pavilion (at Souvenirs de France)
- United Kingdom Pavilion (at The Toy Soldier)
- Canada Pavilion (at the exit of O Canada!)
Participating in the Kidcot Fun Stops allows you to tour Epcot and wander into the countries to explore more of the hidden gems of this park. Sample some of the treats. Look around at the merchandise in the shops – often you can find unique items in the World Showcase that you won’t find in any of the other shops or parks. The Cast Members welcome conversations and will tell your family more about the country they are representing. It’s an incredible learning experience for the entire family!
