We all know that Walt Disney World can get hot in the summertime. When it feels like you’re walking on the surface of the sun in Central Florida, there’s nothing better than a treat to cool you down! Whether it’s ice cream, a slushy drink, or a boozy treat, sometimes you need a little something frosty while exploring the parks. Here, I’ll bring you my favorite ice cream treats at Walt Disney World as part one of my “Treats to Keep You Cool” series. I’m cooling off already!
Ooey Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream, Ample Hills Creamery
I’m a New Yorker, so I’m familiar with Ample Hills Creamery, a Brooklyn-based ice cream parlor, but it always seems to taste even better at the Most Magical Place on Earth! This ice cream shop is located over at the Boardwalk Inn, just a short walk from Epcot. Trust me when I say it’s worth the hike, even in the summer heat! All of the flavors are crafted with the finest ingredients, but my favorite is definitely the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. Delicious vanilla ice cream is loaded up with a delicious specialty, ooey gooey butter cake; it’s my favorite ice cream flavor on earth! If you’re looking for another option, try Sally Sells Seashells, orange marshmallow ice cream loaded with salted chocolate seashells. It’s a flavor made especially for their Walt Disney World location!
No Way Jose, Beaches & Cream Soda Shop
While we’re exploring Crescent Lake, I’d be remiss to skip over Beaches & Cream. Located at the Beach Club Resort, this little ice cream shop is famous for their delicious sundaes (and boozy milkshakes!). You really can’t go wrong here, but my personal favorite is the No Way Jose, a peanut butter and chocolate sundae, complete with chocolate pieces, whipped cream, and a cherry. If you’re feeling extremely hungry and don’t mind sharing, try to tackle the Kitchen Sink, an over-the-top sundae for four!
Croque Glace, L’artisan des Glaces
My next pick brings us to L’artisan des Glaces the World Showcase in Epcot. Head to the France Pavilion and you’ll find the cutest little ice cream shop full of refreshing ice cream and sorbet flavors. My favorite option on the menu is the croque glace, or brioche ice cream sandwich. Choose your ice cream flavor and your sauce flavor (I’m a caramel fleur de sel ice cream and chocolate sauce girl, myself), and a Cast Member will sandwich it inside of a brioche bun. I know it sounds strange, but trust me here. You’ll be back to try all the flavor combinations!
Dole Whip, Aloha Isle
We’re off to Adventureland (and other locations around The World, too) in the Magic Kingdom for my next treat. I’d be remiss to leave Dole Whip (located at Aloha Isle) off my frozen treats list, even if it’s dairy-free and not technically ice cream! This refreshing pineapple soft serve is the perfect frozen snack when you’re melting away in the Magic Kingdom, and it’s vegan, which is nice for those following special diets! Go traditional and get a cup of soft serve, enjoy a Dole Whip float, or try the pineapple upside down cake topped with Dole Whip. Pro tip: you’re allowed to bring your snacks into Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. There’s nothing more quintessentially Disney than enjoying a Dole Whip in the Tiki Room (and the air conditioning doesn’t hurt, either)!
Orange Swirl, Sunshine Tree Terrace
Here’s a controversial pick: the orange swirl, located at the Sunshine Tree Terrace, right down the road from Dole Whip. This new treat has replaced the Citrus Swirl, and the reviews are definitely mixed. I, personally, love the new concoction: orange Dole Whip mixed with vanilla Dole Whip. If you’re an orange soda lover, try the Orange Swirl Float. Give it a try for yourself to see how you like it!
Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar, Everywhere WDW
Would it even be a WDW ice cream list if I didn’t give a shout out to the Mickey Bar? It’s a fact that everything tastes better when it’s Mickey-shaped, and the Mickey Bar is definitely one of the tastiest treats around. This bar can be found at most ice cream carts throughout the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs. Indulge in it’s simple perfection, vanilla ice cream coated in a crunchy chocolate shell. Get your Instagram pictures fast, because these treats melt in a matter of minutes in the summer sun!
