Universal Orlando’s CityWalk is a mecca for amazing food. You have options like Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, NBC Sports Grill and Brew, the new Bigfire, and one of my favorite options, The Cowfish. For those who don’t know, The Cowfish is a unique restaurant that serves up both sushi and what’s known as burgushi. Now what is burgushi? It’s either burgers that include sushi-type items or sushi made with items that aren’t seafood.
Stepping into the restaurant is a little trippy! There’s fantastical art pieces all over the walls, many of which are takes on actual famous works of art, but feature a twist that ties it into the restaurant’s theme. You definitely know this is going to be a fun meal; nothing stuffy.
We were in a bit of hurry this evening because we were trying to make it for Stay and Scream for Halloween Horror Nights, so instead of choosing to wait for a table, we chose to sit at the bar. Guests who sit at the bar can order from the full menu.
The first thing we ordered was the crab rangoon dip. This is one of my favorite appetizers anywhere. Diners are served wonton chips, drizzled with a sweet chili sauce and then a ramakin of delicious warm creamy dip that is reminiscent of the interior of crab rangoon. It is amazing.
Moving on, I don’t eat sushi, but since there’s burgushi, there are options on the menu for me. Enter, the High-Class Hillbilly-Southern Style Bar-B-Q-Shi. This dish is pulled pork, caramelized onion, and BBQ sauce that is then potato wrapped and flash fried. The “sushi” is then topped with housemade bacon coleslaw and there is a massive pile of flash fried potato “straws”. (Kind of resembles a haystack.) The flavors of this dish are incredible. They are so varied and yummy. If you like pulled pork and don’t like traditional sushi, this is a dish for you.
My husband got the Philly Roll which is served with freshly sliced salmon, avocado, cream cheese. As a traditional sushi fan, he loved this dish. Again, it had great flavors and was very fresh.
Overall, The Cowfish is somewhere you absolutely need to put on your radar, if it isn’t already.
