They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and when it comes to Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort….that statement is definitely true.
The general feel of the restaurant is not super themed. There are some unique elements overall, for example, I love the fans, but mostly, this is just a restaurant.
Let’s the get to the food, which is really the star of the show here. Kona is well known for their breakfast. They are famous for their Tonga Toast, which is a Banana-stuffed Sourdough French Toast rolled in Cinnamon Sugar and served with a Strawberry Compote. But that’s not what we came here for!
I came here for the other dish that they are known for – their Macadamia Nut Pancakes. These are served with Macadamia Nut Butter, Pineapple Sauce, and your choice of Ham, Bacon or Sausage. These are two large pancakes that are covered in a delicious butter that includes the Hawaiian specialty of macadamia nuts. There are pineapples tidbits scattered all over, mixing wonderfully with the taste of the butter and the sweetness of the pancakes.
Another specialty here is their Kona Blend Coffee, which is quite delicious.
Now, while we didn’t get the Tonga Toast, we did get their regular French Toast, which is served with a Caramel-Banana Sauce and a side of your choice of Spiced Ham, Bacon, or Sausage. This was two full pieces of toast that’s covered in cinnamon/sugar and a container for you to pour as much of the caramel-banana sauce that you want. Again, a very yummy, albeit very sweet option for breakfast.
Kona Cafe is one of my must visits for breakfast and this is the reason why. You definitely leave full, you have a fantastic meal, and the good news, it doesn’t break the bank.
