Disney’s 15th animated feature film turns 65 this year, or 455 in dog years. Released on June 22, 1955, Lady and the Tramp tells the story of a refined cocker spaniel named Lady who fears her humans are going to be rid of her when their new baby arrives. After running away from home, she meets a mutt named Tramp and is instantly charmed. Their adventures lead to romance and the happily ever after that true love deserves.
Tramp is a romantic pup and in his pursuit of wooing Lady, treats her to dinner out on the town. He brings her to the alley behind Tony`s Restaurant where the film`s most iconic scene takes place. With stars in the sky and Tony crooning in the background, Tramp and Lady share a plate of spaghetti and meatballs. They each begin eating the same noodle, meeting in the middle for a canine kiss.
With such a perfectly laid out doggie dinner, our choice for our movie meal was pretty obvious. Spaghetti and homemade meatballs are the perfect representation of the film and an easy meal to make. Don’t forget the red checkered tablecloth and candle for the full effect!
If you would like the Lady and the Tramp experience while visiting Walt Disney World, you can dine at Tony’s Town Square Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. Boasting Italian favorites and a great view of Main Street, Tony’s is as close to the magic of the film as you can get. There are little touches throughout the restaurant that embrace the theme, such as paintings on the walls and a fountain featuring the main characters. Or if pasta just isn’t your thing, pop over to Epcot during the Flower and Garden festival to see the Lady and the Tramp topiary in the Italy pavilion of the World Showcase.
Lady and the Tramp is a classic film that every Disney fan should see at least once. Even our dog approves of it, although she may have just been interested in the meatballs. You don`t have to be a dog person to enjoy this movie, although it can’t hurt. For the cat lovers, there are two pretentious Siamese cats who sing a duet that is guaranteed to get stuck in your head for days. Whatever your animal preference, Lady and the Tramp is sure to delight. Until our next Disney movie meal challenge, I bid you all a bella notte.
