I love a good themed Disney treat. The more creative it is, the better. So when I heard that Backlot Express was serving up a special cake in the form of a paint can, I knew I had to see what this way all about.
Lately Disney has been knocking it out of the park with these cute dessert options. And they’ve really been hitting it heavy with specialty mini cakes, which are frequently found at Amorette’s Patisserie at Disney Springs.
This dessert, however, is only available at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at this specific quick service location and it fits the theme perfectly. Since Backlot Express is themed after the backstage area/workshop of a movie set, a paint can dessert is 100% on point. Guests who wish to pick up this treat right now will have to mobile order it, which is exactly what we did. Learn more about how mobile order works here.
Since I was able to mobile order this treat, I decided to split my time….I had my husband wait in line for Baseline Tap House while I went and picked up this dessert. We decided we’d have our lunch at Baseline and this Paint Can Cake would be the dessert!
So, once we were responsible adults and ate our lunch (I mean, we weren’t that responsible, as our lunch consisted of a charcuterie board and a giant pretzel and beer cheese), we dove into the paint can cake.
This is actually a pretty good size mini cake for the money. I would definitely suggest splitting this among your party. We were a party of 3 and it was just the right amount of dessert for all of us at the time.
As you can see, the cake itself is a double layer rainbow confetti vanilla. It features a vanilla buttercream icing. Now, the most interesting was the Mango-Chocolate drip. Then there is a White Chocolate Paintbrush on top. As I mentioned, the mango-chocolate drip, which resembles “paint splatter” is a really cute touch….not my favorite flavor, but it’s really cute.
The cake overall actually isn’t overly sweet. I have a pretty good sweet tooth and this wasn’t even close to one of the richest things I’ve eaten. It was a great way to end the meal though.
So, my big takeaways….it’s really cute….it’s not overly sweet….it’s not that expensive….and I would totally suggest sharing it.
