On past trips to Walt Disney World we visited Blizzard Beach several times. Some prior to children, and other with our children. There are many ways you can experience this water park and I will share with you some things to know and what you can do while at Blizzard Beach.
First of all, what is Blizzard Beach? Blizzard Beach is the largest water park at Walt Disney World Resort and it applies an outrageous ski resort theme to an awesome water adventure park. It’s action-oriented, with the emphasis on slides and thrills. The park features over 17 slides, a wave pool, an area for pre-teens and an area especially for little tikes. But one of the best parts is the water is heated to 80 degrees.
Beach Towels
Because we were first timers we didn’t know if we needed to bring towels. We asked around and learned, that no, you don’t have to bring your own towels, you can rent them there. But that doesn’t mean you have to. You are allowed to bring your own towels if you wish.
Lockers
What do you do with all of your personal belongings? Do you leave them in a beach bag on a beach chair and hope they are safe? Well, you can do that, but I wouldn’t leave anything valuable in them. You can rent lockers for the day. You provide them your license and you get a key for the day. The lockers come in two sizes and price ranges. The small is $8.00 rental per day. The size is 11″H x 9″W x 16″ Deep and you pay a $5.00 key deposit which is refunded when the key is returned. The large locker is $10.00 rental per day. The size is17″H x 9″W x 16″ Deep and you also pay a $5.00 key deposit which is refunded when the key is returned.
Attractions
Are there rides for people who are afraid to go fast? For sure! There is also a lazy river, which is wonderful. It provides shade, you can use a tube while floating and you can get out of the river in many different areas of the water park. This is a nice way to rest your legs after climbing several stairs to the larger slides.
Children, Cameras and Coolers
What about if you have small children? Not to worry, there are different areas of Blizzard Beach to accommodate all age groups. There are several family rides, little tike areas, pre-teen attractions and those for the brave at heart. Click here to see the list of all the available slides.
You can bring a camera as long as it is water proof! Many people bring their water proof GoPro cameras onto the slides to capture their point of views while riding down the slides! Waterproof cameras are also available to purchase at Beach Haus for around $15.00.
Coolers are also allowed in Blizzard Beach, however no alcoholic beverages or glass containers are to be carried into the water park.
Polar Patios and Premium Beach Chair Space
While the park doesn’t have cabanas, they do have private, shaded decks that come with lounge chairs, a locker, a cooler and more! You can rent a Polar Patio for up to 6 guests and it includes premium amenities such as towels, cushioned seating, a locker, refillable drink mugs and a cooler stocked with ice and bottled water. Attendants are on hand to help Patio Guests get the most out of the water park and to take your food order (separate dining charges apply). To rent a Polar Patio in advance you can call (407) WDW-PLAY. You can also inquire about same-day availability at Shade Shack Rentals upon arrival. Please refer to the Disney site for the current prices.
Lodge Picnic Umbrellas – Premium Beach Chair Space are also available which includes 2 lounge chairs, umbrella, cocktail table and 2 towels. Limit is up to four people. To rent a Polar Patio in advance you can call (407) WDW-PLAY. You can also inquire about same-day availability at High n Dry Rentals upon arrival. Park Hours
This information is important to know. Blizzard beach is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. I was surprised to learn that it closed so early; but with thunder storms that usually roll in, it times out perfectly so you are leaving before the storms hit. Something also to keep in mind is the seasonality of the park. Blizzard Beach is usually “snowed-in” for rehab each year for two months between October and February. Please be sure to check our refurbishment page for the latest closure updates.
