Cars Land at Disney California Adventure gets into the Halloween spirit!
Halloween is right around the corner, and Disneyland is ready to celebrate this spooky holiday! If you’re heading to the Happiest Place on Earth, here are my picks for the best attractions for Halloween.
THE HAUNTED MANSION
Disneyland Park’s Haunted Mansion is a classic for ghoulish fun year round, and has been for decades. But recently Disney decided to give this frightfully fun attraction an overlay during the Halloween and Christmas seasons. It seems that Jack Skellington has decided to try his hand at celebrating Christmas. The result: The Haunted Mansion Holiday, in which the residents of Halloweentown decide to try to jingle all the way, with decidedly bizarre results. The highlight of this ride is the gingerbread house in the banquet scene, which changes every year.
SPACE MOUNTAIN GHOST GALAXY
The Mansion isn’t the only classic attraction with a Halloween overlay. Over in Tomorrowland, a phantom has invaded Space Mountain. As you hurtle through the pitch black darkness of outer space, you will be pursued by ominous otherworldly forces. The soundtrack to this ride is decidedly eerie!
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: MONSTERS AFTER DARK
It’s not only classic attractions that are getting a Halloween overlay. This past summer, guests were thrilled to ride the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout at California Adventure. You can still ride this version in the Halloween season, as long as it’s daytime. Because at night (usually around 5:00 p.m.) the attraction changes!
You see, during Mission Breakout, the Guardians need your help to escape the Collector. But during Monsters After Dark, the Guardians realize that they’ve left Groot behind! They need your help to go back to rescue him, and, of course, you’re being pursued by dangerous intergalactic monsters.
CARS LAND
Okay, technically this describes TWO attractions, but bear with me, because it’s worth it. This year, not only is Cars Land decorated for Halloween, but two of its attractions have new Halloween themed soundtracks. Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters is now Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-o-Ween, and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree is now Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree. Not only are both rides decked out with bats, pumpkins and spiders (all cleverly made with car parts) but both Luigi and Mater sing Halloween music. My personal favorite is Mater’s rendition of “Welcome to Radiator Screams!”
MICKEY’S HALLOWEEN PARTY
All right, so this isn’t technically an attraction, but for some Disneyland visitors, no trip here during this season is complete without it. A special ticketed event, Mickey’s Halloween Party features the opportunity for guests to come in costume, trick or treat at multiple candy stations, watch a parade that includes the ride of the Headless Horseman, see special Halloween fireworks, and meet Disney villains that you don’t usually see in the park. It’s not cheap, but for some, the splurge is worth it for the enormous amount of candy you bring home and the chance to ride attractions with minimal wait time. My personal favorite thing to do at the Party? Catch a performance by the Cadaver Dans as they croon spooky songs in perfect four part harmony.
