Disney’s Animal Kingdom is currently celebrating all things The Lion King with its new live action film coming out this year and the 25th anniversary of the animated version. They have introduced photo opportunities, new nighttime show aspects (with the Tree of Life Awakening), even Kilimanjaro Safaris is sharing nuggets about the films as Guests go out on their rides. And yes, you guessed it….there are snacks.
This weekend, I was able to grab one of these delicious options – the Bugs ‘n Grubs Ice Cream Cone. Guests can pick this up at both Trilo-Bites, right outside of Dinoland USA and at the Anandapur Ice Cream Truck in Asia. That’s where I ended up grabbing it.
The cone costs $5.99 and is chocolate soft-serve ice cream (though you do have a choice of chocolate, vanilla or swirl…but chocolate is the option it originally comes with), topped with chocolate cookie crumbs, gummy worms, and a chocolate bug all served in a green waffle cone.
So, how is it? Slimy, yet satisfying.
Seriously though…the ice cream treat itself is pretty pedestrian. I didn’t receive an overabundance of worms (only one) and my chocolate lady bug fell off right after I took this picture and landed on the ground…which brings me to my next point. This is soft serve ice cream….which means this is super melty ice cream! Be prepared for a mess! It’s a large amount of ice cream – very top heavy. This dripped everywhere, including on my hands and on my clothes. You might want to ask for some cups to put this treat in, but then you miss out on tasting the cone flavor, so kind of a catch 22.
So, would I get it again? Maybe, maybe not. Given that there was only one gummy worm, I’d lost my chocolate lady bug so I can’t speak to its deliciousness, and that the cookie crumb dust is kind of minimal and doesn’t add much flavor, just style….it would really depend. A regular ice cream cone is $1.00 less…so, I guess it depends on my mood and if I’d rather save the money or if I wanted to pay the extra dollar for the fun.
What about you though? Would you get the Bugs ‘n Grubs treat? Let us know in the comments or on Facebook or Twitter!
