Delicious burgers at Tangaroa Terrace!
Whenever people ask me about dining at Disneyland, one of the first things I say is “You know, it’s so much more than just burgers.” And that’s true. Disneyland, over the decades, has elevated its dining scene, both in table service and quick service restaurants, so that now guests can find healthy selections, ethnic choices, and even some food items that are downright unusual.
But sometimes when you’re in a theme park, a burger is exactly what you’re looking for! So here are my choices for the best places to grab a great burger. You’re on vacation, after all!
NOTE: If you’re traveling with kids, know that all the restaurants listed below have burgers on their kids menus, as well. And if anyone in your party has a food allergy, know that the quick service restaurants have allergy-friendly versions of many of their burgers. For table service, it’s wise to make any food allergies known when you make your reservation, and also let your server know as soon as you’re seated. Disney, in general, does a fabulous job of offering allergy-friendly dining to its guests.
HUNGRY BEAR RESTAURANT – DISNEYLAND PARK
Burgers are always on the menu at this Critter Country restaurant, and right now you can choose from three different versions: an Angus 1/3 pound cheeseburger, a barbecue double burger, or a vegan burger. But what sets this place apart is the atmosphere in which you can enjoy your burger. Seating is outside overlooking the Rivers of America. You might catch a glimpse of ducks swimming by, the Riverboat carrying guests on a gentle cruise, or more adventurous guests canoeing! Even on a busy day, this place can feel relaxing and away from it all.
TANGAROA TERRACE – DISNEYLAND HOTEL
If you find yourself at the Disneyland Hotel at lunchtime, head to this Polynesian themed quick service establishment for their Angus 1/3 pound Hawaiian cheeseburger. There is seating both inside and outside with lovely views of the pool. If you are a guest of the Disneyland Hotel, you can even take your meal poolside! And if you’re here at night, you may be able to catch a performance of live Hawaiian music.
SMOKEJUMPERS GRILL – CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE
This quick service restaurant, right next to Soarin’, always has a few burgers on the menu. Right now they have a “Show Your Ears” burger, which is a cheeseburger with two mini sliders making up the ears! If that sounds like too much for you to eat (and it’s a lot of food!), you can grab a bacon cheeseburger, a chili cheeseburger, or a plain old fashioned cheeseburger. There is always at least one veggie burger on the menu, and one of them is a jackfruit sandwich. (If you haven’t tried jackfruit as a meat substitute, give it a shot. The texture and taste are really good!)
RALPH BRENNAN’S JAZZ KITCHEN – DOWNTOWN DISNEY
If you want to escape the parks for a bit, head to this Downtown Disney table service eatery for one of their burgers. Right now there are two on the menu, the Jazz Kitchen Cheeseburger and the Bayou Burger. Both are made with ground filet mignon. The Jazz Kitchen burger is more of a classic cheeseburger, but the Bayou burger adds lots of Southern flavors to the mix, including fried green tomatoes!
