Back in 2008, my family and I stayed at POP Century for our trip. We were in the 70’s complex, right on the lake, and we could see the unfinished side of the resort. It was one of those moments (again) where I wish there was a giant tent or wall around the whole thing because at that time, it was a deserted construction zone. Imagine my surprise when I was helping some friends plan their upcoming trip to the World and found that Disney’s Art of Animation resort was now taking reservations! I hadn’t even realized it was at that phase!
Designed with heavily-themed family suites, the Art of Animation Resort seems to have taken it up a notch in respect to it’s level of design/theming. With rooms based on Finding Nemo, the Lion King and Cars, you do not merely have a hint of these movies in your room, you are surrounded by them!
From the official Walt Disney World site: With 1,120 suites designed after Finding Nemo, Cars and The Lion King, and 864 rooms inspired by The Little Mermaid, you’ll feel like you’re staying in the middle of a Disney story with all of your favorite characters. Family suites are scheduled to open in May 2012 and standard rooms are scheduled to open December 31, 2012. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort features room types for almost every party size and preference—including standard rooms and family suites.
Just outside your colorful accommodations, you’ll find imaginative amenities, 3 sparkling swimming pools and 4 playful courtyards—one for each film—to complete your Resort experience.
Just because this is the 26th resort on the Walt Disney World property, doesn’t make it any less magical. What I think is just perfect about this resort and it’s theme is that it keeps completely in check with the Walt Disney brand; the whole thing is themed around the history of Disney Animation. Admit it, Disney fans, we love those animated films and the characters and they are a large part of why we want to vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort. To me, it’s about time that the animators and the animations got some special attention in the form of it’s own resort!
With this resort falling in to the value range, it is definitely on my radar for any future trip we may plan. I like the fact that it will host so many family suites and even though we are a family of four, with my kids now being older (20 & 12), the thought of having a little more room to move around and being able to have some more privacy may be worth the extra money. We’re frugal vacationers and not ones who spend a lot of time in our rooms, but I do pack a cooler that we eat breakfast out of to save money and I think that if I was going to splurge on a room bigger than the typical value, I’d rather do the family suite than move up to the moderate.
Especially with a fun, new resort to check out!
We have been waiting and watching for years for Disney to finish this resort and my sons asked are we going to stay the first night like we did for POP Century. Why of course we are, until,I saw the prices and they are not value rate at 188.00 a night and up no thanks I’ll stay at POP century or Riverside.Maybe they will drop the rates for passholder or Fl residents otherwise we will not be going there. We go to uch to pay that price.Love Disney, but not the prices at this resort.
