On an average trip to the Magic Kingdom, most people walk right passed the Harmony Barber Shop without a second thought. What you may not know is that the barber shop is fully functioning, and a wonderful place to get a haircut. In fact, they offer a special package for babies’ first haircuts, which can turn a stressful experience into a fun activity for your toddler.
Admittedly, I was hesitant to cut off my son’s adorable baby curls, but by age 3, he had quite a mane on his head. So I made him an appointment at the Harmony Barber Shop for his first haircut. Reservations can be made in advance by calling 407-WDW-DINE. The shop also accepts walk-in appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to the first haircut packages, they offer cuts for adults and children as well as mustache/beard trims and hairstyles with colored gel/sparkles.
The barber shop is tiny, with only three chairs for services, and is fully themed like the rest of Main Street. Since we had an appointment, we waited only a minute or two to get my son’s haircut. The stylists here are very accustomed to having young customers, and were both gentle and efficient.
My son was not stressed about the process. Instead, he was more interested in getting covered in stickers and playing with the light spinners that the stylist had on hand. We even got to see the Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It Parade go by in the background. Before we knew it, all of the baby curls had been snipped away. They were not lost though. The stylist was sure to preserve some of them in a small baggie along with some pixie dust to remember the hair cut. My son left the appointment looking less like a baby and more like a little boy, in what I dubbed a “Pinocchio cut.” We were also given a special pair of mouse ears that said “My 1st Haircut” on the back and a commemorative certificate.
Hair cuts at the Harmony Barber Shop cost $19 for adults and $15 for children. The first haircut package is $18. Beard/mustache trims are $10, and adding gel/sparkle to your hair will run $5. The barbershop hours usually run from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. They accept cash, room keys and credit cards, but all tips must be made in cash. We thought the Harmony Barber Shop was a great value for our money and the first haircut was a fun memory for the whole family. I hope that someday we’ll bring my youngest baby for his own first haircut!
