Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is going to change the patterns of Disney’s Hollywood Studios forever. Gone are the days of the Backlot Tour, The Great Movie Ride and Lights, Motors, Action! But in a little corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard sits a memory of old Hollywood: The Hollywood Brown Derby.
The original Hollywood Brown Derby in Los Angeles was known for celebrity sightings and their famous Cobb Salad. Disney’s Hollywood Studios recreated the restaurant, and their recipe for the original Cobb Salad! The Signature Restaurant inside Hollywood Studios is worth 2 Table service credits, and usually requires an Advanced Dining Reservation. But just around the corner sits the Brown Derby Lounge.
Opening at noon, the lounge is first come first serve. You are always welcome to walk up to the bar to order drinks, but I recommend finding a table under an umbrella and enjoying their small plates menu. If you ask nicely, they will also serve you from the indoor menu if you so desire.
Relaxing environment under the huge umbrellas
Food offerings include Wagyu Beef sliders, a Charcuterie Board, Andouille-crusted Shrimp, glazed Pork Belly, Beef Arepas, Pork steamed buns, and the famous Brown Derby Cobb Salad. I always get the Cobb Salad, as it was invented and perfected at the Brown Derby. But everything looks delicious and gets great reviews. Portions are not small, so don’t worry about leaving hungry, even if you stick to the “small plate menu”
You will not leave hungry after this giant Cobb salad
The lounge is also known for their margarita and martini flights. In the hot Florida sun, the margarita flight seems more refreshing to me. They also have a large selection of wines, beer and specialty cocktails.
Refreshing Margarita flight!
Don’t leave before experiencing their desserts. Lemon cheesecake, cappuccino brûlée, blueberry cobbler, banana-toffee cake, dark chocolate cremeux are all great choices. But, the Brown Derby is known for their grapefruit cake! They even have a grapefruit cake martini!
Not only does the lounge have great food, drink and dessert options, it is also a great place to people watch. You can see the Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away stage show from here without moving a muscle. Sometimes the Citizens of Hollywood even make an appearance. The only downside: the lounge is outside…but it is so relaxing out there you might not even notice.
So if the crowds get a little too much for you now that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is open, and you just need a place removed from the “galaxy far, far away” don’t forget about the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge.
