On November 18th of last year Mickey and Minnie celebrated their 90th birthdays. There were many releases of Mickey memorabilia released all through the country leading up to this momentous day. From T-shirts to Oreos to Goldfish, everywhere you turned, Mickey’s face was there.
The Walt Disney Company uses the debut of Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928 as Mickey’s (and Minnie’s) birthday. The Walt Disney World Resort celebrated the day with specialty food, desserts and drinks. Guests entering Magic Kingdom on that day also received a celebratory button and stickers. During the castle welcome show, Let the Magic Begin, Mickey’s birthday was mentioned and guests watching the Festival of Fantasy Parade were given birthday hats to wear.
However, it took a few months for the celebration to get started in a big way in the parks. On January 18, the Magic Kingdom began its huge celebration for the Mouse that started it all, and his longtime girlfriend with Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration
New Meet and Greet
For a limited time during Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration, Mickey and Minnie are now meeting together in their new celebratory outfits at the Town Square Theater. Due to Minnie meeting with Mickey, Pluto has taken her place over in Storybook Circus.
New Street Party
Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party has replaced the Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Party. This new party focuses on Mickey and Minnie and all their best friends with a new song “It’s a Good Time”.
New Food and Drinks
The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor has featured a Mickey Pants Sundae for several years now, but now you can also purchase the Minnie Kitchen Sink Sundae. Both feature two scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, cherries and a choice of hot fudge, peanut butter or caramel topping. These are fun to enjoy while sitting on the grass in the hub and people watching. They are very hard to get home on a plane with out breaking however.
Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe is featuring a Mickey Burger. This bacon cheeseburger is topped with macaroni and cheese, cheese sauce and “flaming hot cheese dust”. Mickey is also toasted on to the top of the bun. This burger is A LOT of food and not for the faint of heart. But it is fairly tasty if you really like cheese.
Several of the table service restaurants in the Magic Kingdom are offering the True Love Cheesecake to celebrate Mickey and Minnie’s 90 year relationship. The strawberry and vanilla swirl cheesecake can be found at Tony’s Town Square, The Crystal Palace and the Skipper Canteen.
A sparkling cider slush can be found over at Gaston’s Tavern through the end of February. The Now and Forever Slush includes a strawberry dipped in white chocolate and decorated with Mickey and Minnie.
For a limited time, during Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration, you can also celebrate Mickey’s 90th birthday with a special birthday Mickey sipper with a birthday hat straw. This guy is super cute and won’t last long.
Other Celebrations
Disneyland is also celebrating the dynamic duo with the Get Your Ears On Celebration. They have many new foods, merchandise and entertainment offerings. Mickey’s Mix Magic is a new projection show on Main Street, Rivers of America and it’s a small world.

During the summer Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Party at Sea will take place on the 7 night cruises on the Disney Fantasy. Not too much information has been released about this celebration, but you know it will include special food and merchandise! I can’t wait to see what these mice have in store for guests on the high seas!
New merchandise is always being released at retail and grocery stores around the country. Keep your eyes open for fun new clothes, collectables and food options. (Like Mickey Bars which are coming to your local grocer soon!)
