One of the most underrated experiences on property, is definitely the Animation Experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This is a class where you learn to draw a Disney character, taught by a Disney animator themselves! I had so much fun doing this experience – let’s see why!
It is a bit of a trek over to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. I enjoy going over there to escape the crowds, the heat & hop on a fun train ride. Once there, you can pet all kinds of animals like sheep, goat & more. There is a little museum inside as well talking about all the work Disney does to help animals in need. I love Rafiki’s Planet Watch! I got to enjoy the animals both before & after the class. There is something so peaceful about being over there.
The Animation Experience is in the main building.
There are a variety of characters you can create during these classes. People often do them multiple times to collect all the characters! I’ve seen a lot of Simba, Pumba & Louis as some available options. I was hoping for Simba, but ended up in a class where we learned Ed. Sometimes if you ask a Cast Member, they can advise you of a schedule when each character will be drawn. This is hit or miss, as they often don’t know themselves – but it’s worth a try!
When you arrive, you choose a chair & you’ll find a clipboard, paper & pencil at your drawing station. I suggest getting there early to get a spot close to the front so you can easily see the artist’s teaching. They do have monitors showing you his work, but they’re not easily seen from all over.
Now it’s time to draw! I am not an artist by any stretch (unless photography counts), so I was a little nervous to see how mine would turn out. These artists can make anyone an artist! They take their time to carefully show each step, and there is also a guide on your paper to assist you. I was very pleased with how it turned out!
At the end of the class, you can purchase a cardboard roll to store your artwork to get safely home. Additionally, you also have the option to get your artwork framed or mounted for an additional cost. I did not do any of these options, as Ed is not a favorite character. If I’d done Simba, I definitely would have! What a beautiful piece it would make in my spare/games room at home.
Beginning soon, Guests will be able to learn how to draw a brand new character from the upcoming film, Raya and the Last Dragon. Guests will be able to learn to draw Tuk Tuk! Details about this new opportunity can be found here.
Overall – definitely recommend to anyone of all ages! A fantastic experience to enjoy with your friends, partner, family or solo. Add this one to your list!
