Walt Disney World is a great place to have your family’s photo taken. The backgrounds are gorgeous and your whole family is (relatively) happy to all be together. We share our Top 5 Ideas for making sure you capture the best family portraits possible.
Park Icons
Make sure to hit the park icons
The number one place to take family photos throughout Walt Disney World is in front of the icons at each park. Although this isn’t a unique idea, it is still one of the top places to get those family photos done. At Magic Kingdom make sure to stop in front of Cinderella’s Castle, in Disney’s Hollywood Studios you can choose from the Chinese Theatre or Tower of Terror, Disney’s Animal Kingdom has the amazing Tree of Life and at Epcot you have Spaceship Earth. Each of these icons offer wonderful backdrops for your family photos. I try to take a family picture each day in front of these icons to help document where we spent our vacation.
Favorite Rides
Take pictures outside your favorite rides
Another great place to take family photos is in front of your favorite rides at each park. This is a great way to capture your favorites together as a family. Make the photos even more special by adding in your emotions that connect to the ride. Scream like you do on Tower of Terror or laugh like you do on Toy Story Mania or even pretend you are singing like you do in It’s a Small World (you know you do). Taking pictures together outside your favorite ride or even show is a great way to help capture your memories.
Mickey Mouse
Don’t forget to get a photo with the main mouse
One of my favorite family picture is of all of us with Mickey Mouse. We normally get this picture in the Magic Kingdom however you can find the big cheese throughout all the four parks and sometimes (though rare) even in some resorts. I enjoy Magic Kingdom as this Mickey has the ability to interact more with guests through tricks, questions and even singing happy birthday. We have been able to capture some great joyful moments while visiting Mickey. These pictures really show the joy and magic that is Disney. Having a picture with Mickey Mouse captures what Walt Disney World is all about.
Non Park Icons
As you can imagine there are numerous places throughout the Walt Disney World parks that offer amazing opportunities for pictures. Take advantage of these lesser known places in each of the four parks to take pictures of the family.

Disney resorts offer wonderful backdrops for family photos. Lobbies, nature areas and resort icons all offer great spots for family photos. Lobbies at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Polynesian all offer beautiful and breathtaking atmospheres for photos. Head to the beaches at the Polynesian or Grand Floridian or the boardwalk around the Yacht Club, Boardwalk or Beach Club for more unique photo options. Don’t limit yourself to your resort, but instead travel to different resorts to grab those unique pictures.
