Disney fans around the world were excited to hear that Walt Disney World would begin their phased reopening on July 11, 2020. Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom will open to guests on July 11, while EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will open on July 15. Upon reopening the theme parks, Walt Disney World has announced that they will be using a new Park Pass Reservation System that will require guests to reserve a theme park for each day of their valid admission ticket. This new system is accessible via the Walt Disney World website in the My Disney Experience Section of the website.
For guests who have booked FastPass+ reservations for a trip to Walt Disney World, this system will feel very similar. Once you login to your My Disney Experience account, follow the option in the drop down menu called Disney Park Pass System.
Once there, you will be able to learn more about the system, view park hours and make theme park reservations. To make theme park reservations, click the blue button labeled “Make a Disney Park Pass Reservation.”
This link will prompt you to sign into your My Disney Experience Account in order to tie your theme park reservation to your valid admission tickets.
Once logged in, you will be able to select you party. Make sure all the people you are traveling with are linked as family and friends in My Disney Experience. Select your travel group and click Continue.
The next screen will prompt you to select the date of your visit and which park you would like to visit on that date.
After you have selected your dates and parks, you will select a time. For Walt Disney World, the time we selected aligned with each theme park’s operating hours for that day. We are also able to come and go from that park during the day.
Once you have successfully completed the process, you will receive a confirmation screen and your reservation will show up in your “My Plans” section of My Disney Experience.
For guests who have been visiting Walt Disney World for a while, Disney has made us into uber-planners! We rely on crowd calendars, advanced dining reservations, FastPass+ reservations and the phases of the moon (just kidding- kind of) to plan the perfect trip. This added a new layer of planning and another challenge.
So, what are some considerations you should have in mind when using this park reservation system?
- This system opens to all ticket holders once they purchase tickets. Reportedly, it will be in place through September 26, 2021. This means that there is not a window of time that certain guests can reserve before others. Unlike Advanced Dining Reservations or FastPass+ reservations which gave on-site resort guests priority booking windows, the Park Pass Reservation Window will be available as soon as a guest purchases tickets.
- Because it is open to anyone who buys tickets, you don’t need to book your Park Passes from the end of your trip to the start, like you might have if you were booking popular FastPass+ reservations. Instead, reserve your highest priority park first on the date you want it and go down the list from there. So, for example, our family knew we wanted to be at Hollywood Studios sometime during our trip. We were hoping to visit on our second day, but would be happy visiting any day. I reserved that Park Pass Reservation first once the system opened. From there, we booked Park Pass Reservations at the rest of the parks throughout our trip.
- You are only allowed to select one park per day. While you can come and go from that park throughout the day, Disney will not allow park-hopping. You will not be able to visit more than one park per day. Disney hopes to resume park-hopping, but as of right now, you are limited to one park per day.
